Bring Them Home – Shabbat of Resolve to be held Nov. 3
Press release from Chabad UF Jewish Student Center
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — In the wake of the October 7, 2023 terror attack in Israel that saw over 1,500 innocent Jews brutally murdered, over 3,000 wounded, and 239 hostages taken, among them babies, women, and elderly – Chabad UF Jewish Student & Community Center is hosting a BRING THEM HOME SHABBAT, IN SOLIDARITY WITH OUR BROTHERS & SISTER IN CAPTIVITY on Friday, November 3, 6:30 p.m. at the Center, 2021 NW 5th Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32603
This Friday night, we will fill every seat at the Center’s Shabbat table, united in heart and mind in solidarity with Israel and our brothers and sisters, who are cruelly being held hostage. We will join together at Shabbat dinner, with heartfelt prayer and meaningful song, channeling our fervent wish for the swift release and safe return home of every single captive to their own Shabbat table. We will also pray for the safety of the brave IDF soldiers and peace and security in Israel.
“Children, the elderly, women, and men were cruelly and brutally kidnapped from their homes in Israel. We cannot sit here in Gainesville, FL and do nothing. We must channel all of our spiritual energy and prayer to storm the heavens for their release,” says Rabbi Berl Goldman, director of the Chabad UF’s Center and organizer of the event. “Shabbat brings blessings to the world and we will use that power to help bring them home.”
The Bring Them Home – Shabbat of Resolve will feature evening services, a four-course Shabbat dinner, inspirational words, and uplifting songs. Each seat will have the name and photo of one of the hostages being held in Gaza.
During past conflicts in the Land of Israel, when things seemed bleak, and during times of danger for Israel and the Jewish people, the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, the most influential rabbi in modern history, made practical suggestions of Mitzvahs, good deeds to elicit G-d’s protection. Celebrating Shabbat with prayers, food and camaraderie is one of the greatest Mitzvos and will no doubt bring blessings to the hostages and Israel.
At 6:20 p.m., prior to services, women and girls will light Shabbat candles to usher in the holy day. “Kindling Shabbat candles brings a powerful light into the world. We must remember that by illuminating our own corner of the world, we can impact events on the other side of the world, and outshine evil with its blinding light,” said Chanie Goldman co-director of Chabad UF.
