Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A Buchholz student was arrested Friday and charged with possession of a knife on school property after a fight at Buchholz High School.

The fight, which occurred around 11:50 a.m. in a restroom, was captured on video. An email sent to parents stated that two students were involved in a fight and that one displayed a knife and used the handle to hit the other student. Neither student was seriously injured, according to the email. The administration also stated that both students would be disciplined.

The student has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon on school property, both felonies.

  • This scenario is just crazy. Kids attending school are there to learn not fight or bring weapons into the school. I am sure both students got suspended. My child was involved in a fight in which she was only defending herself after being struck several times by the other student a Male. According to what the school told me they suspend both parties involved in the fight so there is no victim or defendant. At least the guy got criminal charges filed against him. But the violence in s hool must stop.

  • I went to high school in the early eighties. I always had a knife. It was not a weapon, it was a tool. Specifically a multitool. I used it frequently. Everything from shop class ( do they even offer it anymore) to tightening a drawer slide on the AP Calculus teachers desk.

  • We need to make homeschooling the required norm, so parents must apply for their brats to enter a school building based education. The brats must have a history of good behavior and mental stability from preschool evaluations, then.
Any behaviorally/mentally ill kids must be barred and kept in home schooling.
I remember seeing a demon seed at my niece’s 4th birthday party, so we know it starts early.

  • “…the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Not sure where the ambiguity is here. Unlawful and unconstitutional arrest!

  • “The administration said that both students would be disciplined”.
The one with the knife should be expelled from school. No second chances for someone who brings a weapon on campus. Now….will they do it???

  • You will be sued for put a minor’s name on the news!!
You got the wrong person’s name, the victim’s name on the news.
Just because he is Latino you assume that he is the one that had the knife.
    I will sue you

  • It really doesn’t matter. No names should have been said because they are juveniles, but my thing is not being racial, but is he going to be charge as a juvenile or an adult don’t get me wrong. It may be his first offense but it’s premeditated because you brought a knife to school so you knew what was gonna go on but if that was a African-American, they would have been charged as an adult from the jump, I’m just saying and that’s just my opinion why did you have a knife in the first place? What made you bring this to school? Is this something you have every day and no one knew of it or is it just something that you bought that day because you knew you were gonna get in a fight that’s premeditated no matter how you look at it.
