‘But, hey, I’m a Democrat…’

POLITICAL CARTOON BY JAKE FULLER

    • It’s the “drug of choice” of ALL politicians; it’s what they’re elected to do. I can complain about that, though, because I don’t vote for any of them to represent me.

      • You can have ALL the healthcare you want….but stop making US (the productive members of society) pay for it. Your devious income redistribution BS needs to end.

        • Loufus, you realize I hope that millions of Americans work hard jobs full time and can’t afford health care. They’re the productive ones replacing your roof, pouring the concrete, laying the block, and mowing the medians while drive around on your fat ass complaining.

      • Osamacare increased healthcare insurance 126% since it was passed, that’s TWICE the rate of inflation! It’s a horrible program. But dem Schumer and his nutty followers just want to keep paying! NTM that many polices were provided to the “poor” using dead people’s SSNs and whole groups of people got it on the very same SSN. A tremendous waste!

      • Seriously? This isn’t ‘healthcare’. Healthcare is clean living. After the fact ‘health repair’ is what costs. The fact that menopause information is readily available on every pocket computer, in every pocket, in the Nation, is what Jake is reiterating for the the dull-witted, obtuse [pay attention] and ignorant.

      • Jazz: You are responsible for your own healthcare and education.

You want me to pay for your gas & McDonald’s too?

You communists are the problem…you don’t know what personal responsibility is…always want free stuff.

        • Bulls…., you realize I hope that millions of Americans work hard jobs full time and can’t afford health care. They’re the productive ones replacing your roof, pouring the concrete, laying the block, and mowing the medians while drive around on your fat ass complaining.

      • I’m an old lady also. Jazz, how is this health care?
Why does the state have to educate about an everyday topic on our tax dime? Menopause is life. It is not a medical condition. Get real for once.

    • Menopause is another way Dems think they’ll keep women voters. After ruining their health will abortion pills they pushed before. What do you think Big Pharma will do to older women next with a mRNA anti-menopause vax?
      👿💩👹🥵🤡

  • Cute. But the cartoon ignores two points: (1) not everyone can afford a doctor; (2) the internet is rife with misinformation and disinformation, and the comments here alone demonstrate the inability of a lot of people to distinguish between fact and fantasy.

    • Michael, you can ask your mother or grandmother about menopause. And you can buy a number of fans. The handheld fans with feathers are cute. Tax money is for heart transplants.

      • Wrong, Mary. My mother and grandmother are both deceased, not that I ask anything from any government, which is why I don’t vote for any of those clowns. But did you consider that perhaps a woman who did need some information might also not have a mother or grandmother alive to ask? More to the point, did you think of anyone other than yourself when writing your comment? You don’t need to reply. The answer is clear.

Also, tax money is for anything that the representatives that nitwits who vote to have other people spend their money choose to spend it on, but I already said that. So I’ll just thank you for your live demonstration of something else I already said: that even when the answer is sitting right there in front of them (no need for Google), some people still can’t differentiate fact from fantasy.

  • Dung-for-brains doesn’t get that there are millions of Americans who can’t afford a doctor and don’t have one and there will be millions more after the ACA subsidies expire at the end of the month.

Most of them left out are in red states genius!

      • After all…they did label it the “Affordable Care Act”…right? And, just as the “Inflation Control Act” prevented rising prices….right? Both democratic boondoggles that did the opposite of what they named them.

  • Okay helping women, our mothers, sisters and daughters, navigate health issues so they have information and treatment is a waste of taxpayer $$??
Another gem of wisdom from a privileged knucklehead. Jake being Jake.

I think the Republicans have a lock on wasting taxpayer money:
Political Campaigns and Propaganda: The state government under Gov. Ron DeSantis has been accused of misusing millions of taxpayer dollars to fund political campaigns against certain ballot initiatives.
Amendment 3 (Marijuana Legalization): Reports indicate that over $50 million in state funds, including some from opioid settlements, were spent on ads and materials opposing a constitutional amendment to legalize recreational marijuana.
Amendment 4 (Abortion Rights): A lawsuit was filed alleging the state used taxpayer money on a website to promote the Republican position against the abortion rights amendment on the ballot.
Legal Battles and “Culture Wars”: The state budget has included nearly $16 million specifically for litigation costs to defend the governor’s polarizing legislative agenda and “culture war” lawsuits, such as the one against the Walt Disney Company. Critics argue these policies are known to be unconstitutional and the legal fees are a waste of public money.
    Targeting Local Governments:
The DeSantis administration and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Blaise Ingoglia launched the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) task force to scrutinize local government spending, with the aim of justifying proposed property tax cuts.
Local officials and Democrats have called this a “shell game” and a political tactic to attack Democratic-run counties. They argue that the focus on local “waste” distracts from state-level spending and could jeopardize essential services like law enforcement.
CFO Ingoglia’s office has claimed specific counties, such as Palm Beach and Orange, are overspending by hundreds of millions of dollars, while local leaders counter that “safe isn’t free” and their budgets are transparent.
State Agency Mismanagement and No-Bid Contracts: Critics have pointed to several instances of questionable state-level spending:
Hope Florida Program: A state agency was found to have diverted $10 million in Medicaid money to the First Lady’s “Hope Florida” charity for alleged “political purposes”.
Travel Expenses: A House budget subcommittee investigated state employees living out-of-state and using taxpayer money to commute to Florida for work.
Immigration Projects: The state’s use of hundreds of millions of dollars in no-bid “emergency” contracts for controversial projects, such as an immigrant detention camp, has also drawn scrutiny and accusations of a lack of accountability.
Returning Federal Funds: In 2025, Florida returned over $878 million in federal funds, which the governor claimed had “ideological strings attached”. Critics, however, argue this was a political stunt that deprived Florida of needed resources at taxpayers’ expense.

David Goboff so you admit this is a waste of money?

I haven’t read the bill. What I’m pointing out is that this is an example of – People who live in glass houses, shouldn’t throw stones. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the cartoon misrepresents the intent of the bill. The health of a significant part of Florida’s population is something worthy of taking action to educate and promote. Telling someone to Google their health issues isn’t exactly the way to promote the public good. And the spending referenced in my first reply IS A WASTE OF MONEY (or worse).

Thom Curry No. After reading through the bill any support and education is the least the state can do. Because of inadequate education and care there are, I’m sure, people who do not have the facts and necessary support for what is a natural human process. Sorry Thom, not a waste at all. And if the Republicans would only stop wasting money on nonsense there would be a lot more taxpayer money available for the good of the citizens, but instead it’s spent on their pet partisan causes. Let’s give women autonomy over their own bodies.

David Goboff you don’t think they can find that information more efficiently by searching the internet?

Thom Curry it may not be part of your world, but even today not everyone has access to the internet. I think the big ugly bill killed some of the incentives and grant money to extend the internet to rural customers. Then there are people who may have access to the internet, but some portion of the people who could benefit from it do not have a clue about how to find and utilize it. We’re not Gen Z, we were born in the 1940’s to 1960’s and internet is not lingua franca for us. These are serious issues. Oh… the internet says I need hormone therapy! I guess I’ll go to Walmart and pick up some Estrogen from the headache aisle. Is that what you think happens? Yes there is a need and this is one solution. Telling your mom (assuming she’d be comfortable coming to you to ask about her menses) that all she needs to know is in Google is NOT a solution.
This cartoon is simplistic and mean spirited. I does not serve the readership of the Chronicle, or maybe it does serve the male readers who probably don’t even say menopause without laughing like school boys.

    • David: that was a long and tedious crap you just said…blah, blah, blah… in one ear and out the other… good thing I can speed read.

  • The Communist program doesn’t work in their countries either. Neither has Socialism, any where or at any time in history.
