Cammack calls on Senate Democrats to end shutdown and protect women, children, and military families
Press release from U.S. Rep. Kat Cammack
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Yesterday, Congresswoman Kat Cammack (FL-03) called on Senate Democrats to act immediately to end the ongoing government shutdown, which has now entered its second week and is threatening critical programs for women, children, and military families.
“This isn’t just a shutdown — it’s a $1.5 trillion shakedown,” said Congresswoman Cammack. “True legislating means putting people ahead of politics — and right now, this shutdown is hurting those most vulnerable: children, single mothers, and working families. The women of Congress have an opportunity to lead where others have stalled and to show the country that compassion and common sense can come before partisanship.”
Cammack, who co-founded and co-chairs the Republican Women’s Caucus, led a letter urging Senate Democrats to support the bipartisan, clean continuing resolution (CR) passed by the House on September 19 to restore government funding and ensure essential services — like the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program — continue without interruption.
Due to the shutdown, WIC — which supports nearly seven million low-income mothers and young children — faces catastrophic funding shortfalls. Without swift action, states will soon be forced to turn families away. The shutdown has also created uncertainty for military families, many of whom are missing paychecks while relying on WIC and other assistance programs to feed their children.
The lawmakers commended President Trump’s decision to use tariff revenue to provide temporary relief for programs like WIC, noting that while the action offers critical short-term support, it underscores the need for Congress to act swiftly.

Republicans are keeping the government shut down. Vote them out.
Kat is a pro-government RINO. The federal government should be a fraction of its size and budget. Kat and her congressional colleagues should be working to cut the budget instead of constantly raping us year after year while politicizing the rape. She’s no better than any other congress dweller…they all whore themselves out while marching in a uniparty fashion
Kat is an anti-abortion numbskull. Take your meds and go to bed.
Last time I checked Kat your party has full control of the government . So you don’t care that our ACA is going up 2,000 dollars. Come on Kat stop being a partisan hack and look out for all of your constituents.
It’s a Republican shut down and they are keeping it going by taking nice paid vacations for themselves and kicking Americans off of their health insurance. Even MTG is advocating to open Congress and save affordable health insurance.
It’s truly disheartening to see so many people with such strong political opinions and such complete ignorance of civics.
The bill already passed the House because Republicans have a majority, which is all that is needed.
Senate rules require 60 votes to bring this bill to the floor, and Republicans have 53 Senators, so hopefully even Alachua County public school graduates can do the math… at least 7 Dems have to vote for the bill. Since all 53 Republicans are voting for the bill, the missing votes are all… Democrats.
You can argue that Republicans should propose a different bill, but you CANNOT argue that Republicans “control” the Senate and can pass anything they want without any Democrat votes.
There is no hope for America when everyone is happy to repeat the narratives of their respective parties without doing any research whatsoever.
If Congress would pass 12 appropriations bills, no one could hold government hostage. Senate and Congressional leadership from BOTH parties continually push a CR at the end of the year and are the ones responsible for allowing these shutdown games to exist. We know Democrats will never own the shutdown by their insistence on adding 1.5 trillion to the CR, but Republican leadership allowed it to happen by not returning to normal order. I don’t mind when government is “shutdown” but as long as these yahoos are still in DC playing the blame game and getting paid, its all just a farce to elicit political emotions.
Democrats are not trying to add $1.5 trillion to the CR. Extending the ACA subsidies would keep premiums from more than doubling for as many as 24 million Americans – most in red states – and ” Making the enhanced subsidies permanent would cost $350 billion over a decade”

The rich guy tax cuts the Republicans passed are projected to cost between $2.5 and $5 trillion in the next decade.
Tax cuts do not “cost” anything. They reduce the revenue that the government wants to provide services to the people. The “cost” is what is spent after those revenues are received (or at least authorized to spend). So, the tax cuts are reducing the amount the government can spend. Certainly, those tax cuts are benefiting the higher earners – but they do not “cost” anything. You are correct in that the Democrats are not asking to add $1.5 trillion – but instead are asking to add $350 billion to the budget – which is adding to a clean CR funding the government at its current spending levels (i.e. “costs” to the government). It is still the Democrats who are asking for assurances on spending “costs” that go beyond the dates of the current CR.
This is a Republican shutdown, Cammack, no matter how hard the GOP tries to brand it otherwise.
I am a moderate who votes GOP or Dem depending on the person and the platform. I fully support fiscal responsibility for myself and for the government.
But, man, am I tired of your games and the games of the MAGA Trump GOP. Enough. You all need to grow up, compromise with the other party and do your jobs.
Our nation is a worldwide embarrassment with an addled narcissist in the White House wondering why he can’t get a Nobel Peace Prize when the renames the DOD the Department of War. He has the mental and emotional capacity of a toddler.
What a colossal mess you and your ilk have made of our nation. Sack up, do the job you campaigned to do and stop toadying to the deluded Trump.
