Career Offender on parole arrested for threatening employee with box cutter at Munegin’s

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Francis Richard Swanson, 65, was arrested last night and charged with aggravated assault after allegedly threatening an employee with a box cutter at Munegin’s.

At about 10:40 p.m. on Friday, an employee at Munegin’s (4005 NW 13th Street) reportedly decided to cut off Swanson because of his level of intoxication. As the employee walked Swanson out, Swanson allegedly turned around and pushed the employee.

The employee stood in the doorway to prevent Swanson from re-entering, and Swanson allegedly pulled out a box cutter and moved toward the employee, swinging the box cutter. The employee fled back into the bar in fear of being stabbed, and Swanson reportedly left.

A responding Gainesville Police Department Officer reportedly found Swanson about 200 feet from the bar, still in possession of the box cutter.

Post Miranda, Swanson reportedly admitted that he was kicked out of the bar but denied pulling out a box cutter. The officer reported that Swanson was “very intoxicated” during the interview.

Swanson has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. He is a Florida Career Offender who was convicted of second-degree attempted murder in Miami-Dade County in 1996 and is currently on parole. He had four felony convictions (four violent) as of his last Alachua County arrest in 2017. He is currently being held without bond.

  • Hopefully the SAO won’t give him a mulligan, he’s obviously had enough of those and proven he’s a hazard to society.

    • They need not let him out again he has lived a life to waist…….. nobody to look up to at all. What a BAD EXAMPLE
      CAREER CRIMINAL
TOO MANY TIMES 65 AND 49 OF THOSE WERE A SLAP ON THE WRIST

  • Was he hanging out at the Sunshine Inn or Kampus Inn Dem-lawyer funded hell holes nearby, per chance?
    🤪👿👺🤡👹💩ACLU

    • Actually he acted more like a Rep. Of the shaved head variety. Seems to have about same intelligence .

  • Career criminal within the confines of Alachua County. Lift jail wall up and insert under the jail.

  • Don’t know what a Munegins is but it sounds like a place where guys that look like him would hang out.

  • Munegins….the old Cypress Lounge and original dive bar….it hasn’t changed much in the 50 years I’ve been in town…..

  • It’s a bar for tRump supporters and their ilk. GPD posts up their every weekend. Great for DUI arrests.

    • Given the majority of crimes being committed around Gainesville, GPD may want to “post up” somewhere else.
Then again it may be safer there than certain locations seeing as how if drunks can’t drive straight chances are high they can’t shoot straight either. (As compared to the drug dealers and gang members).
      Just a suggestion.
