GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a spirit of reverence and celebration, a Celebration of Life in honor of Ward Scott is scheduled on June 27 from 5-7 p.m. at Santa Fe College’s Fine Arts Hall on their northwest campus (3000 NW 83rd Street). The public is invited to honor the beauty and resilience of the life of Professor Ward Scott.
The Celebration of Life for Thomas “Ward” Scott, a leading voice in conservative politics who hosted a successful podcast after retiring from his teaching career at Santa Fe College for nearly 40 years, will celebrate the life he led before he passed away peacefully in February.
Scott was an active member of the Alachua County community, serving on the City of Alachua’s Affordable Housing Committee, the Economic Advisory Committee, and the Weed and Seed Grant Committee. He also served on Alachua County’s Rural Concerns Advisory Committee and as the City of Archer’s interim city manager in 2009. He was an avid supporter of Dance Alive National Ballet, as well as many other ventures in the Alachua County arts community. His Celebration of Life will be an uplifting experience and will offer an opportunity for those who knew him to come together and share their stories of the man affectionately known as “Warthog” to all, including his friends and family, wife Barbara, brother Robert (Joan), sisters-in law Miriam (Ken) and Helen, nieces Mary and Hannah, and nephews Alex, Andrew, and Benjamin.
“We know that Ward was beloved by the community, by those that agreed with him as well those that didn’t,” said Freddie Wehbe, who is helping a committee of friends and family to plan the event. “Ward was a gracious, caring person who gave himself to the community. He loved the Gators, he loved the arts, and he loved having conversations, connecting with everyone he met.”
The program will feature a variety of activities designed to honor Ward’s life and stories. Attendees can expect heartfelt speeches, dance performances, and opportunities to share memories.
The Ward Scott Celebration of Life is free to all members of the community. For more information please visit www.facebook.com/thewardscottfiles.
