CFO Blaise Ingoglia announces $774k returned in unclaimed property in the Gainesville region in July

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia announced that the Division of Unclaimed Property returned $57 million to Floridians in July, including $774,619 in the Gainesville region. In addition, CFO Ingoglia and the Division of Unclaimed Property hosted a phone bank in Palm Beach County to help Floridians reunite with 2,762 claimable accounts amounting to $1.16 million in money returned. Palm Beach still has over 1.5 million claimable accounts totaling over $548 million waiting to be claimed. You can visit FLTreasureHunt.gov to search for your unclaimed property.

Unclaimed property from the Department of Financial Services occurs when a financial asset becomes abandoned, lost, or left inactive after a business, bank, or other government entity holds it for 5 years.

The most common types of unclaimed property are dormant bank accounts, unclaimed insurance proceeds, stocks, dividends, uncashed checks, deposits, credit balances, and refunds. Unclaimed property can include tangible assets such as watches, jewelry, coins, currency, stamps, historical items, etc., from abandoned safe deposit boxes.

  • Can Blaise do anything about the tax revenues that were ‘misappropriated’ and not used to fix the roads?

    • Maybe get the state to pay their fair share for all the commercial property tax they keep taking off the books. Or helping with fire / law enforcement costs.
