City of Alachua receives Safety Award from FMEA

Press release from City of Alachua

ALACHUA, Fla. – The City of Alachua received a coveted Safety Award from the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) in March 2025. This award recognizes and rewards public utility agencies for safe operations.

“Each of these winners embodies the safety culture deeply inherent in public power. Their continuous efforts throughout the year to maintain safe workplaces and cultivate a culture of safety ensure employees can work both securely and efficiently,” said Amy Zubaly, FMEA Executive Director. “We applaud these utilities for their commitment to safety.”

Utilities are placed into categories based on their total worker hours and rewarded for the most incident-free records. The City of Alachua received the award based on a perfect safety record in Category A, which includes utilities with zero to 59,999 total man hours.

“As a City administrator, safety for each of our coworkers is of utmost importance,” said City Manager Mike DaRoza. “I am proud to see that not only is our Electric Department operating safely, but they have also fostered an environment where safety isn’t a goal, it’s a non-negotiable standard.”

  • I don’t care. Pay our bills. Fix Tower Road. The holes on the sides of the road are not safe. An award wont keep my care from flipping.

  • Well that settles it. Alachua got an award. They must be perfect.
Better reelect Gibby. Better elect Clovie as Sheriff. Better give all the city’s money and power to the Bookari Klan. Better rush the Tara developments. Better find a city manager less competent than the last one. Sprawl that growth as ugly as you can. Trash the place ASAP.

    Nirvana on Earth.
