GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Gainesville Mayor Harvey Ward and City Commissioner Bryan Eastman will present ska-punk band Less Than Jake with a Key to the City at a benefit performance during the group’s annual Wake and Bake Festival.
When: Saturday, March 14

City officials also will proclaim March 14 as Less Than Jake Day in Gainesville, recognizing the band’s role in helping make Gainesville a national destination for punk and independent music with such hits as “Gainesville Rock City,” among others.
The proclamation also recognizes the band for supporting local nonprofits, uplifting local musicians, and maintaining ties to Gainesville throughout more than three decades of touring and recording.
The band formed in Gainesville in 1992 and has become one of the most recognized groups in ska-punk, releasing nine studio albums. Band members include Chris DeMakes, Roger Lima, Buddy Schaub, J.R. Wasilewski, and Matt Yonker.
