City of Gainesville paints Captain Quarantine on 34th Street wall

BY JENNIFER CABRERA
On March 25, the City of Gainesville introduced (via Twitter and their newsletter, GNV News) Captain Quarantine, their “newest team member.”

On April 6, they debuted “The Story of Captain Quarantine,” an illustrated origin story for the superhero who was developed “to spread positivity, deliver reminders and helpful tips to his neighbors during the stay-at-home order.”
Now the city has painted Captain Quarantine and a reminder to stay home on the 34th Street wall. In response to our question, Shelby Taylor, Communications Director for the City of Gainesville, said the wall was painted by a single person, so there were no issues of social distancing.
We’ve put in a public records request for the expenses related to the Captain Quarantine campaign.
