City of Gainesville Public Works on schedule with storm debris removal

Press release from City of Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Collection of yard debris left by Hurricanes Helene and Milton is proceeding on schedule in Gainesville. Pickup of all remaining storm waste is expected to be complete before the Thanksgiving holiday.

With crews working seven days a week during daylight hours to load material as quickly as possible, the City’s contracted debris hauler has removed approximately 25,000 cubic yards, or 1,250 standard truckloads, of storm waste to date. Beginning the first week of November, the Public Works Department will begin supplementing the existing 20 contractor units with 10 additional City units to speed the remaining collection efforts.

“Residential customers who haven’t had storm debris picked up can expect to see trucks in their neighborhoods in the coming days,” said Public Works Director Brian Singleton. “We anticipate finishing the first pass next week.”

Each Gainesville neighborhood will receive a second pass in November, with the estimated 35,000 cubic yards of storm debris that remains slated for pickup within the next 30 days. At that time, GFL Environmental will resume regular yard waste service for residential customers.

Commercial property owners (businesses, apartment properties, churches, etc.) are responsible for making their own arrangements to remove storm debris. These costs may be eligible for FEMA reimbursement assistance. For more information, visit FEMA.gov.

    • The truth always come out! Alachua Co Gainesville basically stopped debris pickup operations late Sept to save money knowing they’d be saved by FEMA. Now we await the FEMA contractors. Places like Ocala never stopped their regular services and are pretty much done.

  • I have lived in the Duck Pond for 25+ years. Every week we have separate garbage, recycle and yard debris trucks come by for pick up. We have not had “any” yard debris pick up since early September. Today is Halloween and we will have 300 to 500 kids negotiating the trash in the streets and side walks to trick or treat. Perhaps the City can blame it on the lack of GRU money. Something stinks in Denmark and something stinks in Gainesville too. No more excuses just do your job!

  • Is this yard debris going straight to the bio-mess plant? Perhaps that can lower the rates for GRU customers, since they’ll be supplying their own wood… nah, why would they do that?

    • The biomass junker is off-line…

      What a piece of sh!t!

Hanrahan ruined our utility trying to stop big lie commie climate change…

All that woody biomass was supposed to go into it….

Good thing we got the utility authority now….

Desantis & Tallahassee need to mandate that none of that foreign government (United Nations) great reset plan be implemented in Florida…. Local government marching orders come from the State of Florida, not Schwab from the WEF or the fascist globalists from the WHO.
