City of Gainesville seeks artists for GPD fencing project

Press release from the City of Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The City of Gainesville Cultural Affairs Division invites individual artists and teams to participate in a public art fencing project adjacent to the Gainesville Police Department (GPD). The deadline to submit qualifications is Saturday, Feb. 28.

With a new GPD property and evidence building planned at Northwest 6th Street, the public artwork would beautify a permanent section intended to separate the GPD parking area and the Rails-to-Trails multiuse pathway.

Submissions for the public art fencing project should combine design with functional infrastructure that reflects the history, character, and values of the Gainesville community and must meet all applicable safety and durability requirements. Eligibility, submission guidelines, and additional information about the large-scale project are available online.

The project is managed by the City’s Parks, Recreational and Cultural Affairs Department, in collaboration with Gainesville Art in Public Places Trust and GPD.

  • Why are we separating the police from the trail which is intended to get the public to use our multi-use trail of the future. There should be dedicated bike cops on that trail 24/7. Please don’t cut off public access to our officers. They’re primary responsibility is to the public.

  • Yeah, it will be tagged about 2 hours after its done. The taggers in Gainesville are brazen. I’ve seen them do it at 2 pm in the afternoon on a Tuesday on Sw 2nd street near innovation hub. I’d love to know who Shep is … he has the lamest tag ever

  • “Submissions for the public art fencing project should combine design with functional infrastructure that reflects the history, character, and values of the Gainesville community…”
All history or just pre-screened history? As far as character and values—look around; there’s very little of that left of the community many of us grew up in. You can thank the liberal voters for that—they voted for those responsible for selling out.

    • You really need to move buddy. Most of us here in Gainesville love it here and for exactly what makes it different from places you’d be happier at like Live Oak and Palatka. It’s been a liberal bastion with a diverse population for many decades now and if you’re just catching on to that, there’s something wrong with you and it’s turned you into a constant whiner.

      • There’s things you should do as well but it may be inappropriate to mention it here. Gainesville’s demise hasn’t been for “many” decades. You’ve not only lost your vision, you’ve lost your mind as well.
I’d rather whine about the demise of the community than continue to be the pole smoker you are. You son must be so proud—at least your values keep him in business.

        • Since 1960, the democratic presidential candidate has won Alachua County all but twice, the last time in 1984. That was 46 years and 11 elections ago.

Your infantile attempts at personal insults aside, you’ll do yourself a favor if you move to some MAGA paradise.

      • More red voters are moving here now. Hopefully the county will be purple soon and then a lovely red. Progressive and Democrats are dying parties. Kinda like Goode-n-Pretti candy it just rots your teeth.

        • If frogs had wings…

Thanks for continally reminding us what a low life cult member you are. Better have that TDS checked out.

          • All poor Jazzy. President Trump is your president for agree more years and you were so sure he was going to prison. LOL.

  • Should depict our brave men and women in blue. Not another God awful artsy fantasy. These people are part of the real character of Gainesville. Respect them. Police going to work looking at unicorns everyday and the gay rainbow is humiliating for them.

    • ? Why is the rainbow humiliating for them? Are you implying there’s a lack of masculine confidence among the GPD, beacuse that is obviously false.
