City of Gainesville sponsors free workshop on heirs’ property

Press release from the City of Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – All neighbors are invited to attend the free workshop, “Protecting Your Home: Solutions to Heirs’ Property,” sponsored by the City of Gainesville and presented by Three Rivers Legal Services, Inc.

When: 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23

Where: Cultural Arts Coalition, 321 NW 10th Street, Gainesville

The City’s Heirs’ Property Assistance Program offers free probate legal assistance to individuals with an heirs’ property located within the Gainesville Community Reinvestment Area (GCRA) district.

An heirs’ property is a property that lacks a clear title and is not eligible for homestead tax exemptions or federal home improvement grants. Inheritors often encounter difficulties when seeking mortgage refinancing and bank loans. All of these factors may lead to an involuntary loss of property.

This workshop is part of the City’s Homeowner Education Campaign. The event is free and open to the public, and there will be snacks and door prizes.

  • Waste of time.. some of those deeds have more members than the Wu Tang Clan.. and they all want something for nothing 😒.. most of them haven’t paid property tax 🙄 but still feel entitled 😑 to everything except the responsibility of actually taking care of the property..

  • Sooo is the city planning on being at this workshop? I have to ask because that is the same day as JLAC at 2… that is an awful busy day and rush to get back for the event..

  • Are you kidding? The City of Gainesville is trying to influence people (probably Seniors! to will them their property, or at least their heirs as a quick way to rid themselves of such a problem!

Simply a bunch of crooks with new faces!

    • Wait! Should I give to Harvey or Cynthia? Either way, my hard, honestly earned, estate is going to be used for personal agendas either way!

    • They probably want to use taxpayers’ money to clear their titles at our expense…free money to those with heirs property in the name of equity.
