City of Gainesville to observe September 11th anniversary
Press release from City of Gainesville
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The City of Gainesville will observe the 23rd anniversary of the September 11th attacks with a ceremony in remembrance of those who lost their lives as a result of the acts of terror on September 11, 2001.
When:Â 8:30-9:30 a.m. on Wed., Sept. 11
Where: City Hall Plaza, 200 E. University Avenue
A joint honor guard from Gainesville Fire Rescue and the Gainesville Police Department will open the event.
On this National Day of Service and Remembrance, community leaders will ask all neighbors to honor the victims of the attacks by observing the day with acts of kindness, generosity, and service.
The first moment of silence is scheduled at 8:46 a.m. (EDT), the moment when the first airplane struck the World Trade Center in New York City. In unity with ceremonies across the nation, leaders ask houses of worship to toll their bells at that time.
The ceremony is free and open to the public and will be livestreamed on the city’s Facebook page. It will be recorded for later broadcast on Community 12TV on Cox Cable Channel 12; uploaded to the City of Gainesville YouTube channel; and available on demand on GNV TV through Roku and Amazon streaming platforms.
How nice…
