City of Gainesville to present proclamation naming April 18th as Family Caregivers Appreciation & Awareness Day at Caregivers Festival

Press release from Assurance
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The City of Gainesville will formally present a proclamation declaring April 18th as Family Caregivers Appreciation & Awareness Day during the upcoming Caregivers Festival, hosted by Assurance.
Mayor Harvey Ward issued the proclamation to recognize the vital role family caregivers play in supporting loved ones and strengthening the community. The official presentation will take place at the festival, highlighting the importance of acknowledging caregivers and increasing awareness of their contributions and challenges.
The Caregivers Festival, scheduled for April 18th in Gainesville, is designed to bring caregivers and the community together for a day of connection, support, and access to resources. The event will feature local organizations, healthcare providers, and community partners offering services and information to support caregivers in their roles.
“Caregivers carry so much, often without recognition,” said Virginia Grant, Founder of Assurance.
“Presenting this proclamation at the festival makes it even more meaningful — it allows our community to come together in one place to recognize, support, and honor caregivers.”
Family caregivers often provide essential, ongoing care while balancing work, family responsibilities, and their own well-being. This proclamation and event serve as a reminder that supporting caregivers is a shared community responsibility.
Community members are encouraged to attend the festival, participate in the proclamation presentation, and show support for caregivers throughout the region.

Caregivers are often family members who stand to benefit from sharing living expenses with the person they care for, and/or would inherit property from the estate. It’s still a lot of commitment and should be done by the family member most suitable for the situation (not the one who is greedy and uncaring).
