Civil citations issued to juveniles after fight at Lincoln Middle School

Press release from Gainesville Police Department
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Today, just before 10:30 a.m., as students were changing classes, a fight between two juvenile females broke out around two intersecting hallways at Lincoln Middle School (1001 SE 12th Street).
A Gainesville Police Department School Resource Officer (SRO) was within a few feet of where the altercation began and immediately intervened to separate the students. As the fight escalated, a large crowd gathered, with several students cheering and adding to the intensity of the altercation.
To safely and quickly de-escalate the situation and prevent students from being injured, the officer deployed two short (less than one second) bursts of pepper spray directed at the individuals involved. This method is considered a safer alternative to using a Taser or attempting to physically take the students to the ground.
One of the students fled the area while the officer escorted the other to the nurse’s office. Several students in closest proximity experienced secondary exposures to pepper spray. None were sprayed directly.
Students with secondary exposure were treated on scene by Gainesville Fire Rescue and Alachua County Fire Rescue. The affected hallways were promptly ventilated.
The two combatants were issued juvenile civil citations and will face additional discipline from the school district.
We are sharing these details to ensure accurate information reaches our community and to clarify GPD’s involvement in today’s incident.

More uncivilized behavior from the culture of violence and no self control.
You do realize thats the culture they were forced to adopt and assimilate into right?
Man if you could see how hard Im smiling right now, im talking ear to ear.
Oops…
The AC reported this? There’s some in the SBAC who aren’t going to be happy this information was released.
Can’t wait to see the T-shirt.
I’m going to sound old. Back in the day, girls did not fight like rabid dogs. They didn’t twerk either but that’s a different rant. I support the officer using pepper spray. Why should he get injured while these feral girls fight? And for those affected by the peripheral spray, you should have been in class instead of encouraging this behavior. Lesson learned.
Lincoln Middle School is a hotbed of tension. My son and his friend were jumped by 5 others there many years ago. I was called into school along with my sons friends Father. Into the Counselors office we went walking past the 5 kids and mine. Listening to the counselor tell me my kid started it and I had to stop him and say i’ll tell you what, you take any one of the 5 kids and my son outside right now and have a fight a fair fight. He said hold on don’t be racist and I said you are the racist one sticking up for those 5 kids who jumped on 2. Seems nothing changes even after 35 years. Tensions still around. These Schools around here are always hiding something.
It’s a high school fight that sounds like the ones everyone who ever went to public school in this country experienced or witnessed at some point.
All these commenters taking this holier than thou approach were the kids who never evolved to stand up for themselves.
This is everyday America, not news.
Why is GPD doing press releases about a high school fight.
I wonder if this is a policy under the Libby/Curry/Ward Administration.
