Combined Communications Center adds Interactive Voice Response system for non-emergency calls

Press release from Alachua County Sheriff’s Office

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Combined Communications Center (CCC) has implemented a new Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system to handle non-emergency inquiries and calls for service. The new system will allow the CCC to provide faster and more efficient service to our community while ensuring that emergency calls are answered promptly.

The IVR system automatically uses advanced technology to route non-emergency calls to the appropriate department or agency. This means that when a caller dials the non-emergency number 352-955-1818, callers are greeted by an automated voice that will guide callers through a series of prompts to help get the assistance needed.

This new system will improve our ability to serve our community and provide timely and effective assistance. We encourage you to use our non-emergency number for all non-emergency inquiries, such as record requests, the status of an existing case, fingerprinting services, warrants, and jail information, as well as non-urgent law enforcement calls for services such as noise complaints, vehicle tow inquiries, and minor thefts.

There is no change to the 9-1-1 emergency services. When someone dials 9-1-1, a call-taker will answer immediately.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we work to improve our emergency response capabilities. If you have any questions or concerns about the new IVR system, please do not hesitate to contact us.

  • For anyone who has ever called Walgreens and got hung-up in the ‘automated call answering’ system, then you understand.
For those of you who haven’t, ASO is taking the easy way out. Another case of a government agency not wanting to be bothered by the citizens. Back before both dispatch centers were consolidated, a circuit judge in Alachua county made an order that the dispatch centers WOULD be staffed properly or face the court.
Well..nothing has happened yet has it?

  • For a while now I hear that the combined communication center is understaffed, maybe critically. So the response is a phone tree? This does not look like a fix……

    • It’s not a fix. It has definitely reached a critical staffing crisis. At this point I don’t even think Clovis has any intention of fixing anything since he will be stepping down so soon. What really needs to happen is something to stop the hemorrhage of current staff and actively do something to get more staff hired. The administration has known this was going to be an issue for a long time now but as you can see they put their focus elsewhere. The CCC is very often forgotten when in reality nothing gets done without them! The only time Clovis ever makes an appearance is when it’s for a photo op. The incentive for new people just isn’t there, who wants a stressful, low paying job, where no one appreciates you, you have to work insane amounts of overtime and you never get to see your family? You have to pretty much give up your life to work there at this point.
