Commissioner Manny Diaz, Jr. announces April Books of The Month

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr., announced April’s chosen books for the Commissioner’s Book of the Month, a monthly reading challenge to promote literacy and reading engagement in preK-12 schools. Each month, Commissioner Diaz highlights five recommended books – one per selected grade range.
“Tales of bravery ignite strength within us and empower individuals to be resilient when faced with life’s greatest adversities,” said Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. “I encourage families to read about the heroism showcased in this month’s book selections and incorporate these attributes in their own lives.”
The Commissioner’s recommendations for April 2024 are:
- PreK – Hero Dad, by Melinda Hardin
- K-2 – H is for Honor: A Military Family Alphabet by Devin Scillian
- 3-5 – Brave for My Family by Davidson Whetstone
- 6-8 – A Boy at War: A Novel of Pearl Harbor by Harry Mazar
- 9-12 – Soldier’s Heart by Gary Paulsen
