Community activist of 30 years installed as president of Turkey Creek Lions Club

Press release from Turkey Creek Lions Club

ALACHUA, Fla. – Burt Wetherington was installed as the new president of the Turkey Creek Lions Club on June 17.

Mr Wetherington started his volunteer service at an early age, going to the WCJB TV20 studios every year for the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon. He later became an Eagle Scout and has volunteered with numerous non-profit organizations in the last 30 years.

He has been a member of Turkey Creek Lions Club for six months and is looking forward to continuing to help the community as part of the club’s partnership with the Alachua County School Board to help give eye exams and provide eyeglasses and diabetes supplies to indigent families. He also has plans for the Turkey Creek Lions Club to help Alachua Elementary School in all areas that they need, including mentorship to students to help reduce the gun violence, help with all school activities, and continuing to give to the backpack program at the school.

Mr Wetherington credits and thanks his own mentors who have helped him through his life, including Bonnie K. Burgess, Freddie Wehbe, Mickey Milam, Howard Freeman, and Dave Snyder. He is especially grateful to his wife Becky and God, his Father in heaven.

Alachua County has a dedicated activist who will always be here to help the citizens in need.

  • God bless you Burt. You are a wonderful man and are always ready to give of yourself for others.
