Congresswoman Kat Cammack Official Statement On Electoral Certification Process

Press release from Congresswoman Kat Cammack

[This statement was issued at 1:22 p.m. on January 6.]

“The foundation of our constitutional republic is the right to free and fair elections. Our nation’s founders understood that our government should be by the people and for the people, giving all American citizens a voice in the democratic process. Unfortunately, the general election this past November revealed election irregularities that still have yet to be resolved. Without the necessary investigations into these violations of our electoral laws, I will object to the electoral college certification of the states that have violated the 12th Amendment during today’s joint session of Congress.

“State laws in the 2020 election were circumvented without the approval of state legislatures, egregiously violating the Constitution that I swore an oath to defend and protect. I sent a letter, joined by dozens of my colleagues, to Speaker Pelosi demanding House leadership open a full investigation into the irregularities reported nationwide, but Speaker Pelosi has yet to respond, choosing to ignore the voices of millions of Americans that have spoken out about their concerns. The American people shouldn’t go unanswered, especially when this issue affects the very cornerstone of our country and sets a dangerous precedent for future elections to come.

“We must do everything in our power to fight for all Americans’ right to a free and fair election. This is not a partisan issue; this is an American issue. It is our responsibility to bring integrity to this process, and through that, restore faith in the fundamental cornerstone of our republic.”
