Congresswoman Kat Cammack remains dedicated to protecting women’s sports

Press release from Congresswoman Kat Cammack

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Congresswoman Kat Cammack (R-FL) joined House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) at a women’s leadership luncheon on Capitol Hill to reaffirm her unwavering commitment to protecting women’s sports and ensuring fairness, safety, and equal opportunity for female athletes.

During the event, Rep. Cammack shared the resistance she faced when raising the issue of protecting women’s sports while serving as chair of the bipartisan Women’s Caucus.

“In the final minutes of a meeting to determine the initiatives we would champion, I suggested we take a position on protecting women’s sports,” Cammack said. “What followed was immediate pushback and accusations simply for raising the issue. That moment made it clear to me that we could not stay silent.”

Following that experience, Rep. Cammack founded the Republican Women’s Caucus to ensure women have a dedicated platform to defend their rights and preserve the integrity of women’s athletics.

The luncheon featured female athletes who have directly experienced competing against male athletes in girls’ sports, including Payton McNabb, a former high school volleyball player who suffered a severe concussion, brain bleed, and permanent whiplash in 2022 after being struck in the face by a male athlete competing on a girls’ team.

“All of this could have been avoided,” McNabb said. “My life changed completely in an instant. I lost my ability to play the sport I loved and had to fight through months of recovery and academic challenges.”

Rep. Cammack emphasized that stories like McNabb’s underscore the real-world consequences of policies that ignore biological differences in athletics.

“This is not about exclusion. It is about protection,” Cammack said. “Women’s sports were created to ensure equal opportunity and fair competition. We have a responsibility to safeguard that legacy for the next generation.”

Rep. Cammack will continue working with House leadership, including Majority Whip Emmer, to advance legislation that protects women’s sports, preserves competitive fairness, and prioritizes the safety of female athletes nationwide.

  • I’d say she hasn’t played a sport other than tying her shoes in 35 years. Useless Trump/DeSantis mouthpiece.

    • What does that have to do with anything? She is protecting the safety of the women participants [do you want your daughter wrestling a man?], the integrity of female athletics and the success of the woman who throw heart and soul into sports. Try not to be a jerk.

      • She’s creating a problem that doesn’t exist. And who would take any kind of advice about sports from someone who is morbidly obese? Perhaps she should focus on issues like high property taxes, unavailability of homeowners insurance, etc. You know, real issues that affect us every day.

        • So I take it you don’t think that a man playing woman’s sports is not a problem do you know a difference between a man and woman?

        • Property taxes are local. You know, those locally elected $0ci@li$ts who set the mill rates and special assessments to fund their pet projects—they’re the individuals responsible for those.

          • Yes, the local city and county commissions love their so called non profits, which only benefit themselves and their buddies. GRACE Marketplace, the new Wildflowers mess for Hutch, etc. Screw the taxpayers and fill their own pockets with nonprofit money.

          • Hummm…they learned from a pro conman. Trump University was a for-profit education company founded by Donald Trump in 2004 that offered real estate and entrepreneurship courses. It was not an accredited university and ceased operations in 2011 amid multiple lawsuits and investigations. In 2016, Trump agreed to a $25 million settlement to resolve class-action lawsuits and a case brought by the New York Attorney General, alleging the school used deceptive practices and defrauded students.
Trump Foundation was a charitable organization linked to Donald Trump that faced legal scrutiny for misuse of funds. It was investigated by the New York Attorney General for violations including using foundation money for political purposes, such as a $25,000 donation to a political committee supporting Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi in 2013—while her office was considering whether to investigate Trump University. This donation drew accusations of a quid pro quo, though no criminal charges were filed.

  • This never should have been an issue. There’s only two sexes, male and female and a male has no damn business regardless what his pathetic mind thinks being in woman sports.

    • Agreed. There are at least 2 people who are still confused. For those, if you have to sit down to pee, it’s usually a good indicator you’re a girl; if you generally stand up, that’s a good indication you’re likely a boy.

  • Hasn’t proposed or had any useful legislation passed since elected.
Only in office for the percs & paycheck. Time for her to be voted out.

  • While Riley Gaines and Kat demonize trans participation and enriches herself. This is the REAL problem facing many women in and out of sports as the Trump-Epstein files reveal.

“The U.S. Center for SafeSport has ruled that former Kentucky swimming coach Lars Jorgensen is permanently ineligible from coaching, according to its Centralized Disciplinary Database. The misconduct found was an intimate relationship involving a power imbalance; physical misconduct; retaliation; sexual harassment; and sexual misconduct, according to the database.” NYT Athletic

    • You are the third that doesn’t understand the concept that there are two sexes only. Male and female. Maybe you can explain how males can become naturally pregnant without your demon chemistry kit? How does Epstein factor into woman’s sports? Only you would think that forced happy ending massages was a sport.

    • According to some, there are plenty of people who are indeterminate about their gender—let them have their own classification.
Then they won’t need referees to rule whether they were behind or in front … of the line.

  • It’s the usual hypocrisy that the MAGA, supposedly anti-woke and anti-DEI crowd never mention repealing Title IX, which is the OG affirmative action legislation, treating an entire class of citizens (amateur female athletes) better than the free market would provide. And it’s not a victimless crime, because Title IX diverts resources away from more gifted and better qualified male athletes to achieve its goal of “gender fairness.”

    • Apparently even Sammy understands the differences between female and male athletes. Why do others have such a difficult time? Here’s another example, if part of your anatomy is a 🔌, you’re male; if you have the socket that 🔌 is meant for, you’re female.

I’m fairly confident the 💩🕳️ isn’t what God intended.

  • Think it would be hilarious for the men’s basketball team, in drag, to take the court for a women’s game.

  • Cute baby!

To those simple minded, there are about 1 in 400 humans born who are not physically clearly men or women. There are many more – though still a small minority – who for reasons not understood rebel against their biologically determined sex and identify at a very early age with the opposite sex. They may or may not change over time, but I think most do not. So yeah, there only 2 sexes, but how those others caught between are treated in society is a legitimate question. Most – by polling – seem to agree they should be treated fairly with full rights and there are no legal or ethical arguments which say they shouldn’t be.

On a detail like participation in sports segregated by sex – not a problem usually in early school grades – the question is if enforcing their rights as absolute is in conflict with the rights of women and girls. Most – by polling – think it is and while organizations which oversee athletics, like the NCAA and Olympic committees, have struggled with the issue, they are increasingly restrictive toward trans gender athletes.

Politically, of course Republicans jumped right away on another hot culture war issue involving justifying prejudice with simple minded mottos while pretending opponents – sensitive to the rights issue – don’t know the difference between men and women. While liberal democrats like Gov Newsome and Senator Murphy have voiced opposition to trans men in women’s sports and most democratic voters (7 in 10 by polling) agree, it is another legitimate question whether that specific issue should be settled by laws or by the oranizations overseeing these sports, and by extension, whether trans gender medical care for kids should be outlawed by governments. Well, in the “free state of Florida”, where the government tells us what to read and think, the government has decided that the problem doesn’t even exist because there are only men and women, ignoring the fact that millions nationally are caught between.

Personally I oppose trans gender athletes in sex-segregated sports, unless they are in their biologically determined sex, but I oppose the government making that ruling. Likewise transgender medical care, as long as not dangerous to the long time health of those underage – leave that to the families and doctors. This is not easy for them. The state has that interest in their long time health, but nothing else.
