Conservative Robert Woody announces candidacy for House District 22

Press release from Robert Woody, Republican, for State Representative, District 22

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In announcing his 2024 candidacy for the House seat currently held by Chuck Clemons, who is term-limited, Robert Woody said, “Thanks to Gov. DeSantis and our Republican majority in Tallahassee, Florida has become a beacon of freedom for the rest of the country. As a law-and-order conservative and longtime former Republican State Committeeman, I am committed to keeping Florida Free.

“I know that our success will depend on keeping our communities safe and thriving, while fighting to ensure that all of our children have access to the best possible education. As a former law enforcement officer and business community leader, I will work tirelessly with Gov. DeSantis to push back against the radical left and deliver for Florida families.”

Woody holds a B.S. in Sociology from The State University of New York at Oneonta, and a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Rollins College.

Professionally, Woody has served his community as a law enforcement officer for nearly 4 decades. Throughout his law enforcement career, he has had the privilege of serving in many roles, including Alachua County Jail Director for the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Director of Community Relations for the Gainesville Police Department, and Deputy Secretary for Florida’s Department of Juvenile Justice. In 2019, Governor DeSantis appointed Robert to the Eighth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC).

In 2021, Governor DeSantis also re-appointed Woody to the Santa Fe College District Board of Trustees, where he currently serves as Vice Chair. He has also been serving on the Board of Directors for Truist (SunTrust) Bank for more than three decades. He previously served on the Board of Trustees at Florida A&M University and as Chair of the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce.

Politically, Woody is a lifelong Republican and has been working to elect conservative leaders for decades. He served as the State Committeeman for the Alachua County Republican Party for almost a decade and a half. He resides in Gainesville, FL, a community he has worked to keep safe and prosperous for decades.

  • I was wondering when you was going to run for something. As a Frederick Douglass Republican you got my vote.

  • Time will tell. As a long time law and order conservative I hope he is part of the new Republican group and not like the old good old boy Mitch McConnell type bunch. We need leaders not career politicians.

  • Will he promise to support a 3 Strikes law, and even move repeat offenders to other states and countries if we can’t find enough jail workers in Florida? Make lawyers starve in the auto/home insurance industries, too??

  • Florida isn’t hardly free. We are bound and in a sunken place. What DeSantis is doing is soooo sad. This all coming from a man who partied with his students when he was a teacher. Who’s the real groomer in the room?
