BY JENNIFER CABRERA
ALACHUA, Fla. – Lacorrin Raheem Calhoun, 20, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, in connection with the December 9 fatal shooting in Alachua.
On Friday, December 9, at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Alachua Police Department (APD) and the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Combined Communications Center (CCC) received several phone calls reporting multiple gun shots; other callers reported that someone had been shot inside One 51 Apartments located at 15139 NW 150th Road.
Officers arrived on scene within minutes of being dispatched and located a male subject near building 15139 suffering from a gunshot wound to his left side. Alachua County Fire Rescue arrived on scene and began first aid. The wounded subject was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital by ambulance. While in transport to the hospital, the wounded subject succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by paramedics. The deceased was identified as Jaquan Janario Robinson, DOB 05/08/00 of Fort White, FL.
While officers and paramedics were attending to Robinson, CCC received a phone call from a subject stating he was shot in the back. Officers located Lacorrin Raheem Calhoun, DOB 05/04/02, suffering from a gunshot wound to his armpit area in the pasture adjacent to building 15139. First aid was rendered to Calhoun by law enforcement and paramedics. Calhoun was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in critical condition. Calhoun was released from the hospital a couple of days later.
The Criminal Investigations Division conducted several interviews with on-scene witnesses and persons of interest. After several interviews, it was determined that the incident occurred after a drug transaction went wrong. During the course of the investigation, detectives identified Calhoun as the primary aggressor, and a warrant for his arrest was applied for and granted.
Calhoun made contact with APD detectives today at the Alachua Police Department and was interviewed. Post-interview, Calhoun was arrested on the active warrant for his arrest.
APD has released the following video of Calhoun’s arrest:
The arrest warrant states that the shooting showed disregard for human life but was not premeditated. Calhoun’s bond is set at $1,500,000.
Calhoun has two felony convictions; he was prosecuted as an adult for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon when he was 17 and sentenced to 3 years of probation as a youthful offender, but he violated the probation when he was arrested in Hillsborough County in March 2020. He was arrested again in Alachua County in July 2020; his probation was revoked, and he was sentenced to 18 months in prison with credit for 407 days served. A sworn complaint was filed charging him with grand theft of a motor vehicle just after his release from prison, but the charges were later dropped.
Calhoun was arrested on September 2, 2022, for domestic battery, and bail was set at $7,500. His attorney filed an unopposed motion to release Calhoun on his own recognizance on October 10, but Judge Thomas Jaworski denied the motion and set a hearing for October 19. However, on October 12, his attorney filed a motion for release on his own recognizance because no formal charges had been filed within 40 days of his arrest; Calhoun was released, and the charges were dropped.
Updated at 5 p.m. with additional information from Alachua Police Department.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Correct me if I misread the story.
He was arrested and charged before for “possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.” Went to prison for violating the probation on that charge.
So he knew/knows it’s illegal.
Now he gets arrested for a fatal shooting AND POSSESSION OF A FIREARM BY A CONVICTED FELON.
Better protect yourselves if you can and are legally able. Criminals are not only stupid, (most of them), but they don’t care about following the laws.
Seems like such a nice young man.
Edith, No kidding. He’s just misunderstood
Maybe the victims family should file charges against the state’s attorneys and their office. If they hadn’t been negligence in charging before time ran out their family member would still be alive.
Unfortunely this was a drug transaction gone bad. If the victim would have better life choices then this was avoidable. The Alachua County judicial process is a joke. No one is ever held accountable for their actions. And yes this includes attorneys and judges not doing their jobs because they dont want to upset wokeness.
Want ya look at that… 😂😂
Another one gone… Keep it up guys.
A real scumbag that needs to be caged forever! More of Kramers low bails prior to the murder. Both need to go for a long time, especially Kramer! Fire him Gov. Ron!
Handcuffed in front, a murderer? You have got to be kidding me!
He use to brag and say how his cousin would get him out of detention and jail. Acted ignorant knew everything but I bet he didn’t know that. Well done Lacorrin, I was later not sooner!
Can someone explain the uptick for all these killings happening in Alachua and Marion Counties? I know a lot of it has to be the soft on crime and weak district attorney’s, but why is there such disrespect for life amongst black folks, especially amongst they’re own? There killing each other left and right.
Pretty much every shooting you read about involves black on black crime. And there appears to be a lot more of it than say three or five years ago. I just wonder how their elders allow such barbaric behavior within their communities. Our streets and neighborhood’s are getting a lot more dangerous to navigate and live in. Just curious what the black on black statistics are today than say five or ten years ago for murders?
It’s the welfare system…people bringing children into this world without 2 parents and dumping them in the public school system as daycare.
BINGO!!! We have a winner! (Unless of course your logic has been altered by the media and woke nonsense of course).
Urban birth control again. They’re late as usual, post-partum.
stop all thuggerism now.
buy a gun and conceal it.
