GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ramone Ron Young Jr., 34, was arrested early this morning for allegedly pointing a handgun at a relative and for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

At about 1 a.m. on May 28, Gainesville Police Department officers responded to a report of an armed disturbance at a home in the Northeast Neighbors area and spoke with Young in front of the home. When officers pointed guns at Young and asked where the gun was, Young reportedly said he doesn’t have a gun; the officers detained him in handcuffs.

The victim, a blood relative who lived in the house with Young, said she and Young were arguing when Young became upset, pulled out a black handgun, and pointed it at her head. She said Young said he was going to kill her, but then he ran outside and threw the handgun into the front yard; she said nobody else saw the incident, but Young was on the phone with his mother at the time.

A K-9 team reportedly found a .40 caliber black handgun in a bush in the front yard.

Post Miranda, Young reportedly said that while he was arguing with the victim, she pulled out a black handgun and started waving it around but never pointed it at him. He said a friend of the victim came inside the house and told Young to take the gun away from the victim; he said the victim also told him to take the gun and then gave him the gun. He said he went outside and threw the gun in a bush to keep it away from the victim. He reportedly refused to let officers speak to his mother.

An officer reported that surveillance video shows the victim talking to a friend in a vehicle before the incident, but the friend drives away and never comes into the house. Later, Young can be seen running out of the house and pulling his shirt up next to the bush where the gun was found.

Young has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He has two felony convictions (one violent) and has served two state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2016. Judge Meshon Rawls ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial. On June 1, Judge Robert Groeb granted the motion and ordered him held without bail until trial.

  • You gotta hate those black handguns. They are always jumping into these convicted felon’s hands. I think the handguns have it out for the poor criminals. I guess the knives have it out for them too. Maybe we should ban felons from society for a while.

    • This guy could have benefitted from the gun violence poetry readings and could have avoided going to jail.

the city needs to hire & pay Jake fuller for inspirational caricatures that solve current city issues with art in public places..

  • Dude worked with me for some time, he is bipolar along with many other issues. And needs to be locked up for a very long time. He used to flip out all the time and threaten others.

  • He doesn’t get to “refuse to allow police officers to speak with his mother,” who’s training these cops?
