Convicted felon arrested with gun and trafficking quantities of drugs after hitting ASO patrol car

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Demetrius Albert Marcel Jones-Ross, 31, was arrested yesterday and charged with seven felonies and two misdemeanors after deputies pulled him over as a suspect in a hit-and-run of a person in a wheelchair.
Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop of Jones-Ross’ Dodge Charger outside Madison Cove Apartments on SW Archer Road at about 7:20 p.m. on Sunday because the Charger matched the general description of a car that had been involved in a hit-and-run of a person in a wheelchair in the area. Deputies also reported that the Charger’s window tint appeared to be illegal, and the tint was later verified to be illegal.
Jones-Ross, the Charger’s driver, reportedly pulled into a turn lane for Madison Cove, then pulled back onto Archer Road, driving eastbound. He then reportedly performed a U-turn at 4600 SW Archer Road and started driving westbound; he allegedly failed to pull over after deputies activated lights and sirens. Deputies began positioning patrol vehicles to box him in, and Jones-Ross allegedly made an abrupt left turn, hitting a patrol vehicle and causing significant damage.
Jones-Ross then allegedly jumped out of the Charger and fled on foot from deputies. A deputy eventually caught up with Jones-Ross and subdued him with a Taser after he allegedly refused to get on the ground.
A probable cause search of the Charger reportedly produced cash totaling over $2,400, a Glock 43 with an extended magazine within reach of the driver, about 9.51 grams of MDMA (Ecstasy), and 11.03 grams of MDPV (Molly), which are considered trafficking quantities. Two scales and a plastic spoon with white residue were also reportedly found.
Jones-Ross was charged with driving without a license (3rd or subsequent violation), fleeing, property damage, resisting an officer without violence, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of trafficking quantities of phenethylamines, distribution of synthetic narcotics, and possession of drug equipment.
Jones-Ross was also arrested on a warrant for domestic battery with strangulation.
Jones-Ross has juvenile convictions, two adult felony convictions (two violent), and four adult misdemeanor convictions (one violent). He has served three prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2020. Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $457,000 on the combined charges.

Criminals don’t care about the rules and/or they’re just some of the most ignorant people you’ll ever come across since they can’t read the rules.
If you’ve got a bit of common sense, read this – protect yourselves and your families, (if you’re legally able). These types don’t care about the rules, think they’ll care about you?
I don’t understand it it’s against the law for a felon to have a gun why did he have one? Because only law abiding citizens obey the laws that’s why gun more gun laws don’t work
Is there evidence that he was the hit and run driver on the person in the wheelchair?
Who cares, window tint is probable cause here.
I like to always try to find some measure of gratitude for you guys when I read articles like this, and so here is my unsolicited opinion.
Consider yourself lucky to be alive. You are alive from “the scene” to the jail, you are alive.
Because if it’s really true that you “collided” with an ASO deputy’s vehicle, causing significant damages, while they were chasing you in your dodge charger, you are very lucky to be alive.
Also, I must commend ASO. I commend ASO for thier temperament in making an arrest, and not pulling the trigger.
This comment will probably get some negative feedback about ASO. Hopefully the wheel chair guy is ok too.
But just know you are a lucky man.
He’ll probably do the mandatory 40 days before charges are dropped.
