Convicted felon charged with possession of gun and drugs

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Alunzo Devon Peoples, 23, was arrested late last night and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of crack cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, and driving without a valid license.

Peoples previously pled nolo contendere to similar charges in 2018 and 2019 cases and was sentenced to three years in prison; he was released in August of 2021. Yesterday he was pulled over for speeding by a Gainesville Police Department officer, and she reported that she smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. She reported that Peoples said there were no weapons or drugs in the vehicle, although he reportedly said he’d had marijuana in the vehicle earlier. The officer conducted a probable-cause search of the vehicle, based on the smell of marijuana, and reportedly found a loaded handgun, about 19 grams of crack cocaine, and about 28 grams of marijuana.

Post Miranda, Peoples reportedly said he wasn’t aware of the guns or drugs in the vehicle. He is being held on $220,000 bail.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Congress can write all the gun control legislation they want, criminals don’t care.

  • Gun laws only effects law biting citizens criminals will never obey them if you want true gun control then put people like this A$$ hole in Prison for 20 years teach him a lesson this will not work because the left wing idiots who want gun control will say that being too harsh on him

  • Both of your statements are red herrings. The people that are committing mass shootings are by far “law abiding citizens” who purchase their guns legally. Left wing, or right wing has nothing to do with doing the right thing. Now as far as the person whom this article is about, He has been charged. The courts will probably make him an habitual offender, which he has earned, then sentence him according to his current charges. The point of any law should be Justice for society. Politics by its very nature has nothing to do with fairness or justice.

    • Robert…Are you a comedian by nature or just woke up hoping to be funny?

Nobody mentioned political associations and yet you were triggered by something that caused you to make mention of it. He had been convicted of a prior crime and didn’t meet the requirements for having a concealed firearm.

35 people were killed in Buffalo, Uvalde & Tulsa over the past several weeks while in the rest of the US, 1800 killed & almost 500 wounded in other shootings. Mass shootings although horrific, account for less than 4% of gun homicides. ~ New York Times

I think that rules out your red herring theory but thanks for playing.
