Crews respond to brush fire near U.S. Hwy 301
Staff report
ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Fire crews responded to a wildland/brush fire this morning off of U.S. Hwy 301, just south of County Road 1474.
At about 10:30 a.m. on November 30, multiple units from Alachua County Fire Rescue (ACFR), Melrose Fire Rescue, Windsor Fire Rescue, and the Florida Division of Forestry responded to a reported wildland/brush fire off U.S. Highway 301, just south of County Road 1474.
Upon arrival, crews found an active fire burning in dense forest. The fire was moving north and west, threatening nearby structures. Firefighters quickly deployed resources to protect homes and other buildings, while the Division of Forestry used heavy equipment to contain the spread. The fire was limited to approximately five acres.
Once access and containment were established by the Division of Forestry, crews deployed brush trucks to conduct overhaul operations and ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
ACFR would like to remind all motorists to move over when emergency crews are operating along roadways. This is not only required by law but is also essential for the safety of first responders and the public.
