Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Crews responded to a fire at Hailey Forest this afternoon and successfully contained the fire to the attic space of the home.

At about 4 p.m. on June 13, units from Alachua County Fire Rescue and Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to a reported residential structure fire near the 4900 block of SW Archer Road.

Upon arrival, crews found a two-story townhome with smoke showing from the eaves. Thanks to the swift and coordinated actions of responding firefighters, the fire was quickly extinguished and successfully contained to the attic space, preventing it from spreading into the living areas or the adjacent townhomes. Fire crews were able to save the structure and preserve many of the homeowner’s personal belongings.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Alachua County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Alachua County Fire Rescue reminds all residents to check and change the batteries in their smoke detectors every six months to ensure they remain in proper working condition.
