Crisis Center seeks Crisis Line counselors
Press release from Alachua County
ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – The Alachua County Crisis Center is seeking volunteers to become counselors for its Crisis Line.
These volunteers play a pivotal role and can impact the lives of fellow community members while learning life-enhancing communication skills. Volunteers will learn active listening, crisis intervention, suicide prevention, community disaster response, and more.Â
The next training class begins on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024. After the initial session, training continues for eight weeks on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. There is no fee for training, and applicants do not need to possess any specific degrees or certification. Training is held online and can be done remotely. After training is complete, the Crisis Center asks for a commitment of 24 shifts (each shift is 4 hours long).
If anyone has any interest at all in potentially becoming a counselor/therapist in the future and wants to learn the basics and how to help those in crisis, this is a fantastic way to do that. I did the training and was a phone counselor many years ago for a while. You learn so much and get the opportunity to help so many people.
