Deputies help recover over $2 million in stolen iPhones on I-75

Staff report

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Jeffery Lydell Moore, 61, was arrested yesterday after law enforcement officers pulled over a U-Haul truck on I-75 and found stolen iPhones worth over $2 million.

According to a social media post by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ASO), deputies learned during the evening hours of March 19 that the U-Haul truck, which was linked to an organized retail crime investigation by the Miami-Dade Police Department, was traveling northbound near mile marker 380 on I-75. The Miami-Dade Police Department also provided a detailed description of the suspect.

Florida Highway Patrol Troopers saw the U-Haul truck at mile marker 392 and initiated a traffic stop, assisted by ASO deputies.

Moore, the driver of the truck, matched the description of the suspect; he got out of the truck and was detained. The stolen iPhones were reportedly found in the truck.

  • Wow, good catch FHP and ASO! Where do you suppose the phones were headed…?

  • Since the Miami-Dade PD knew of this guy, perhaps better planning would have just pulled him over to give him a warning ticket while putting a tracking device on the vehicle to find out the “Who and Where” this guy was delivering these phones to.
