DeSantis and Ingoglia highlight salary of City of Gainesville’s Director of Equity and Inclusion and Alachua County’s payment to Planned Parenthood at press conference

Press release from the Office of Governor Ron DeSantis
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis joined Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Blaise Ingoglia to highlight examples of wasteful spending in cities and counties across the state. The Florida Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has traveled to 12 jurisdictions across the state to seek out waste, fraud, and abuse and identify opportunities for improvement. Today’s examples are just a few of the DOGE Task Force’s findings from those visits and from data requests sent to all of Florida’s 411 municipalities and 67 counties.
“Florida DOGE teams have been investigating cities and counties where taxpayers have raised concerns about wasteful spending,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “These audits have uncovered many irresponsible uses of taxpayer funds. It’s unconscionable for local governments to raise taxes on Floridians in order to subsidize wasteful spending. Under my leadership, Floridians can continue to expect fiscal responsibility at the state level — and we are working to bring relief to our citizens being squeezed by property taxes at the local level.”
Through reviews of local governments in partnership with CFO Blaise Ingoglia’s office, Florida DOGE discovered:
- The City of Jacksonville paid $75,000 for a “hologram” of Mayor Donna Deegan to greet travelers at Jacksonville International Airport in multiple languages, they paid $7.5 million for a 1-mile sidewalk project which was nearly eight times the average FDOT estimate, and they have given $1.9 million in grants to DEI-focused arts groups.
- The City of Pensacola pays $150,000 a year to a management company that brings drag shows to the city’s Seanger Theater and has paid $300,000 for an equity-focused strategic plan and residential “equity survey.”
- The City of Gainesville pays the City Director of Equity and Inclusion a salary of $189,000 and has prioritized divisive employee indoctrination on the subjects of race and identity over essential activities to serve residents.
- The City of Orlando has spent $460,000 since 2020 to count trees as part of the city’s “tree inventory,” as well as $150,000 over three years to help illegals evade deportation.
- The City of St. Petersburg has paid $258,000, including funds from the city’s utility and EMS funds, to support Pride events and has also spent $307,000 on a climate action plan to promote Green New Deal initiatives.
- Alachua County paid $31,000 to Planned Parenthood for “Teen Time,” designed for children as young as 13 years old.
- Orange County has spent $223,000 for LGBT youth services that promote gender ideology to youth populations and paid $240,000 to a left-wing urban planning firm that carries out its activities from a “race, social, and health equity perspective.”
- Hillsborough County has spent $572,000 to train County employees about their so-called “unconscious bias” and also provides $950,000 for County employee vehicle allowances with very little transparency.
- Pinellas County spends $75,000 every year to sponsor an annual “Pride” festival.
- Broward County has spent $890,000 on DEI training since FY 2020, including training that pushes gender fluidity and transgender ideology; they have also spent $175,000 on creating virtual art in the Metaverse and $44,000 to support a UN treaty promoting gender equity that seeks to compel Americans to accept gender quotas and unequal treatment in service of supposedly equal “outcomes.”
These are just a few of the many examples of wasteful spending Florida DOGE has identified across the state.
“Floridians across the state have made it clear that they will no longer tolerate waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer dollars,” said Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia. “I have traveled the state to expose nearly $1 billion in wasted taxpayer dollars across just FIVE local governments. Local governments are crying poor but continue to spend wastefully on things like ‘counting trees.’ The taxpayers are tired of it, which is why property tax relief is their top concern. I was proud to be here with Governor DeSantis to expose some of the wasteful line items in local government budgets.”
Florida has led the way nationally on fiscal responsibility. Under Governor DeSantis’ tenure, Florida has paid down nearly 50% of the state’s total historic tax-supported debt and has maxed-out the state’s rainy-day fund. Florida also maintains the lowest ratio of state government workers to population among the states, with 96 full-time employees per 10,000 residents. Additionally, the Governor’s signing of the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 budget marks the second consecutive year of a year-over-year reduction in state spending.

For those people collecting high salaries, they should also list their qualifications and the prior employment experience that qualified them for the position. While they’re at it, release their office/work/meeting attendance.
Pull the curtains back on the hires and placements of personnel in local government offices. You can put money on it, if there’s one unqualified person, there’s bound to be another. An excellent place to start would be Kirby Smith.
Let’s do it for State cabinet members and Higher Education administrators like Nunez, Corcoran, Hasner, Diaz, and Johnson. The clown car keeps rolling with a megaphone of grievances and pettiness.
Invitado, these Bozos just gave away a property in downtown Miami that we own as state taxpayers and which is worth about $330 million to a corrupt rich clown in their party who has made about $5 BILLION in the last 1/2 year while president and they’re lecturing our town like they GAF?
Get outa’ here you crooks.

“The Trump family notched as much as $5 billion in paper wealth on Monday after its flagship crypto venture opened trading of a new digital currency.
While the president’s family has continued to pursue property deals around the world since taking office, the fast-moving crypto business has had the biggest early impact.
President Trump helped launch World Liberty a year ago, while campaigning, saying it would help make “America Great Again, this time with crypto.”
World Liberty’s rise this year came as the president drove the growth of the crypto industry from the White House, reining in regulation and touting the potential of private, digital currencies to invigorate the U.S. economy….”

This was a bit ridiculous. For all the build up, was this seriously all they found issue with? Money spent on preventing teenage pregnancy? Money on a DEI position?
I get it… whatever. But this is what the community voted for and they should have some local say. If the city voters (glad I live in the county) don’t like that position, they can vote it out. It doesn’t impact me at all in the county.
As a county resident, I have no issue with the money spent on trying to prevent teenage pregnancy. I think it’s money well spent. If enough disagree, then vote for different commissioners who feel the same.
Local control of local money.
This is ridiculous when there’s no discussion of let’s say Ben Sasse still getting 1 million + a year. Way more impact on tax payers than this measly findings.
What a let down.
ACR, these were just sound bites. Remember the total for the county is $84 MILLION. They haven’t released the total for G’ville as far as I have seen.
Without proof, they said that Alachua County had $84million in wasteful spending in 5 years.
If the $31k, again to prevent teen pregnancy, is the best soundbite that DOGE would give to DeSantis for his presser, then I stand by may thought that this is ridiculous and DOGE itself is the waste.
I heard law enforcement personnel also get bombarded with this so called ‘unconscious bias’ training every year. Imagine all of the wasteful spending the DOGE team would uncover state wide looking into this matter.
We get it — you LOVE the idea of our law officers wielding their biases like a nightstick. Just like in the “good ol’ days.” As if they weren’t poorly trained enough as it is. SMH….
👿PP👹 isn’t what it was meant for anymore. In some states they give out hormone shots to kids with gender dysphoria and transmentally ill. Among other grooming things causing mental illness in youth.
Why does the City of Gainesville have to have anything to do with DEI ? Is this the current days Affirmative Action ? Too many people in postitions they know nothing about because of a sheepskin. Promote from within is always best and you won’t keep getting further in debt.
Here is some waste and CORRUPTION they left out.
“Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Cabinet approved spending $83 million for the 4-acre parcel in Destin— one of the most expensive conservation land purchases in history — despite strong objections from environmental groups contending it’s a waste of money….in a deal that is being questioned by environmentalists due to its price and how it jumped ahead of other conservation projects. Florida bought the property from companies controlled by a Louisiana businessman who has been a donor to local officials and to Gov. Ron DeSantis.”
So what? Part of the reason why our property taxes are so high is not only because of UF, but also the fact that so much property has been taken over by the county for land preservation. So you get upset only when a GOP member does it? At least he can reduce a budget year over year consistently. What’s our County’s excuse?
Redman, get a magnifying glass and meerschaum pipe, then buy a clue. DeSantis is paying off a campaign contributor – who he undoubtedly expects more from – with your tax dollars. You go to jail for that BS in a real state.
189K for Director of DEI my a$$!
Lou, how abot a $338 million gift by people who don’t own the gift (we do) to a guy who just cleared $5 billion while president? You’re sweating peanuts while the crooks are taking our lunch on Broadway.
How about 2 billion for a wood burner. Oh yeah
That’s ridiculous but what’s more insane is that the guy in this role is inept and unqualified. He came from the commission office as I recall as the head of their so-called policy research team. Ward put him in charge of the city’s DEI efforts but if this is all they found, I guess the bigger story is they didn’t find much. One unqualified employee does not a scandal make. They would do well to send him on his way and figure out a legitimate use of that office. The work they do with small business could be expanded.
What salary would you consider reasonable for a Director of Office position?
Alachua County: Supporting Family Values
Alachua County’s $31,000 in funding support for Planned Parenthood’s “Time For Your Teen” program was recently highlighted by our Governor. This is a great opportunity to share information about this valuable resource.
This program is designed to build stronger connections by working directly with parents/guardians and their teenagers (13-19). It is available for free both online and in person. By promoting trust and encouraging open dialogue about sex education, abstinence, sexually transmitted diseases, screenings, and healthy decision-making, Time For Your Teen promotes positive behaviors and reinforces family values that can last a lifetime.
The importance of awareness and prevention cannot be overstated. Nearly 80% of teen pregnancies are unplanned, and many result in long-term challenges for young parents, including school dropout, unemployment, health issues, and substance abuse. The CDC reports that teen pregnancies cost taxpayers more than $9 billion annually. Florida ranks 25th in the nation for teen pregnancies, with Florida taxpayers paying for more than $443 million in services related to teen pregnancies each year.
Alachua County’s modest $31,000 investment in this program demonstrates how local community action can make long-lasting, measurable differences, save taxpayer dollars, and build stronger futures for families. The county believes this program aligns with our community’s support for healthier families and brighter futures for our youth.

Sickening demonrat policies.
What does “DLH” stand for? Dumb Libertarian Hack?
When history turns this idiotic vilification of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will be seen as the backwards thinking that it is. History will not have a kind place or words for those politicians and individuals who have subscribed to turning back the clocks.
“In the United States, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are organizational frameworks that seek to promote the fair treatment and full participation of all people, particularly groups who have historically been underrepresented or subject to discrimination based on identity or disability.” (from an online definition of DEI)
