Alachua County: A Growing Location for Film and Television Productions

Over the past five years, Visit Gainesville, Alachua County, has solidified its reputation as a film-friendly destination, supporting dozens of diverse projects, including a major streaming series, documentaries, and commercial shoots for local, national, and international brands.

Notably, Alachua County served as a filming location for Netflix’s highly anticipated adaptation of The Three-Body Problem, showcasing its versatility and appeal to large-scale productions, while also supporting most recently the popular television series Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, further highlighting the region’s local restaurants.

“Our county’s unique blend of scenic beauty, rich culture, and supportive infrastructure makes it an ideal location for filmmakers,” said Tourism and Economic Development Director Jessica Hurov. “We are committed to fostering a welcoming environment for the film industry.”

Tourism Program Coordinator and Film Liaison Bailey McClellan added, “Collaborating with production teams has been incredibly rewarding. Our goal is to provide seamless support to ensure their projects come to life in Alachua County.”

Film projects are coordinated through the Visitors Bureau and include support from a multi-disciplinary team, ranging from Alachua County Growth Management to Parks and Open Spaces, the Sheriff’s Office, and the Fire Marshal, who offer guidance on permitting, site selection, and safety.

  • Hope they include our homeless ‘guests’ panhandling the patrons courtesy of our commissioners.

    • Jed doesn’t understand that our local governments are ushering in homeless people from outside of our area. Most people do not have issues with assisting local folks that fell on hard times. This is not what is happening here right now.

We do not have the resources to be a homeless funnel. We have our own problems that need to be addressed before we start taking in everyone else.

      • You have the hard evidence for this or you just like to blabber? Swing on over to GWOM on FB if you truly have the deets. Reveal to the citizens this information that you alone seem to have the inside info on.

    • It’s one thing to hate where you live so much that you try to muddy any celebration of it, but another to blame it for what is a national problem affecting any place warm and with a successful economy and high employment. There are homeless in every city in Florida, but these fools act like it’s unique to us.

  • Uppercrust and not Big Mills?
They keep their masks on for filming?
Hope Guy is vaxxed or they won’t let him in.

  • Too bad it took so long to get here. They missed truly unique local spots like
    – Louis’ Lunch
    – Skeeters
    – Lord Munchies
    – Burrito Bros
    – Tony and Pats
    – Captain Louies
    – Leonardo’s
    – Phil-Nicks
and probably a dozen more that were displaced by giant corporate cookie-cutter chain stores.

I’ve only ever even heard of one of the places they visited.

    • “A chef once upon a time” reads like “failed chef.” And that, tbf, is not someone I’m listening to food advice from. Gainesville has great culinary offerings.
