District offering free homework help, tutoring through new Beyond the Bell program

Press release from Alachua County Public Schools

Students in need of homework help or tutoring can now get that help through Alachua County Public Schools’ new Beyond the Bell program.

Free, virtual support will be available after school Mondays through Thursdays for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Elementary and high school students will be able to access the program from 3 to 4 pm and again from 6 to 7 p.m. Middle school sessions will run from 4 to 5 p.m. and from 6 to 7 p.m. Help will be available in English/language arts, math, science, and social studies.

The tutoring will be provided by certified teachers and subject matter experts.

“We’re excited about providing students who are at home with access to a teacher to help them stay on pace with their learning,” said the district’s Chief of Teaching and Learning Jennie Wise. “As a parent, I know it’s also a relief to have a place to direct my child when they need more help with homework than I’m able to give.”

To access the program, students should go to www.sbac.edu/tutor. They will then select the appropriate link for their grade level and log in to the myPortal system with the Active Directory user name and password they use to log in to computers at school.

The program is being funded through federal ESSER (Elementary and Secondary Emergency Relief) funds, which are intended to help students and schools recover from the effects of the COVID pandemic
