UPDATED: Shooting in northeast Gainesville injures two people

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two people suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds this evening in the 1700 block of NE 8th Avenue.
According to information released by the Gainesville Police Department, at around 6:25 p.m. on March 10, officers responded to the 1700 block of NE 8th Avenue following a report that someone had been shot. Upon arrival, officers located two individuals suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where they are receiving treatment for their injuries.
GPD issued the following update this morning:
“Officers are still working to determine the exact location where the incident occurred. At this time, investigators have confirmed that it did not take place at the Clarence R. Kelly Community Center and Park, and the Community Center and Park remain safe.
“Initial reports suggested the incident may have been a drive-by shooting. After further investigation, authorities determined the situation involved two 19-year-old males from Gainesville. Investigators believe one of the individuals accidentally discharged a firearm, striking himself, while the bullet also grazed the second individual.”
This remains an active investigation.

There is no such thing as accidently discharging a firearm. Finger was on the trigger and pulled it. But when you deal with Gainesville scholars that probably rode the short bus anything is possible.
