James Richard O’Reilly III, 19, was arrested last night following the hit-and-run death of a 21-year-old man who was walking along SW 34th Street at 6:34 p.m.

According to the arrest report, responding officers determined that the vehicle left the roadway and struck the victim, who was on the sidewalk. The driver left the scene of the crash and did not stop to render aid or contact law enforcement.

Based on witness reports, officers quickly identified the vehicle and made contact with O’Reilly around 8:45 p.m. The officer wrote that O’Reilly was noticeably impaired and that he performed poorly on field sobriety exercises. However, the two breath test results were .000g/210L and .000g/210L. O’Reilly agreed to provide a blood sample following the breath tests.

O’Reilly has been charged with DUI with injury to another, DUI homicide/manslaughter, hit and run, and reckless driving (first offense). He is being held on $320,000 bail.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • I guess the “luck of the Irish” wasn’t with him on St Patrick’s Day. The green suit isn’t likely to keep him from becoming someone’s boy/girl friend though.

Should have stayed away from the green beer.

Condolences for the victim, hopefully justice will be served.
