Education Foundation of Alachua County launches “Thank a Teacher” program to celebrate outstanding educators

Press release from the Education Foundation of Alachua County and HCA Florida North Florida Hospital
ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – The Education Foundation of Alachua County is proud to announce its partnership with HCA Florida Healthcare for the launch of its new “Thank a Teacher” recognition program for the 2025–26 school year, designed to celebrate outstanding educators across Alachua County Public Schools.
The program invites students, families, colleagues, and community members to nominate teachers who make a meaningful difference in the lives of their students and school communities. Each month, one educator will be selected and recognized for their dedication, compassion, and impact in the classroom.
“At HCA Florida North Florida Hospital, we’re proud to support the Education Foundation of Alachua County’s Thank a Teacher program and help shine a light on the educators who shape our community every day,” said Gabe Bullaro, chief executive officer of HCA Florida North Florida Hospital. “Teachers show up for students with dedication, compassion and heart — and we’re honored to recognize their impact across Alachua County Public Schools.”
The first honoree of the school year, Joshua Forgione from Gainesville High School, was recognized during a special presentation at the school attended by representatives from the Education Foundation of Alachua County, HCA Florida Healthcare, district leadership, and school staff.
Nominations highlight the personal stories behind the educators who go above and beyond for their students. One nomination for Mr. Forgione shared that:
“Mr. Forgione goes to the Bread of the Mighty on his own time to bring snacks to students who are food insecure at GHS. Teachers have snack baskets in their room and he fills them. He also provides students with food and other supplies who live in poverty. He spends hours on Saturday getting the snacks and brings them in on Mondays. He quietly does this monthly.”
The “Thank a Teacher” program will recognize one educator each month throughout the school year. Selected teachers will receive a $250 award along with a collection of the heartfelt messages submitted as part of their nomination.
In addition to honoring the monthly recipient, every nominated teacher will receive a printed postcard featuring the messages of appreciation submitted on their behalf. School principals will also receive a compilation of nominations each month to share with their school communities, helping expand recognition for educators across the district.
“This initiative in partnership with HCA Florida Healthcare allows the entire community to participate in celebrating the incredible work of our teachers,” said Tia Brock-Paul, Executive Director of the Education Foundation of Alachua County. “A simple ‘thank you’ can go a long way in showing educators how much they are valued.”
Community members are encouraged to submit nominations throughout the school year and help spotlight the educators who inspire, support, and empower students across Alachua County. Nominations open the first Monday of each month.
