Pro-life. In this election season, the voices of politicians and citizens grow louder. The pro-life label and language are thrown about loud and freely, declaring support for the rights of the unborn. While the lives of those yet born matter, so do the (very) women’s bodies who bear them. Their own pre-natal care is just as important.
I would assert that there are so many other important issues that are worthy of the Pro-life label. Consider the following: Isn’t women’s healthcare, family planning, childcare and family leave pro-life? Isn’t preserving/protecting our air and water quality for our children’s future on our planet pro-life? Isn’t it important to have reasonable protections for our foods to be free from chemicals and toxins? Doesn’t the growing number of guns and too easy access to them come with much greater risks to our own homes and communities? There are more guns than people in the United States according to US Census data. (I would call that overkill.) Our public schools have been one of our most prized pillars in America for over 200 years. Yet they are at risk of being defunded and replaced by private or charters that lure parents with the siren call of “school choice.” Yet too often they do not have the foundation or support to sustain them. Nothing is more precious than access to and support for quality public schools. Lastly, isn’t access to quality affordable healthcare one of our most valued pro-life issues of all? While great gains have been made in recent years, over 26 million people are still uninsured.(National Center for Health Statistics)
All of these family values are priorities/platforms of the Democratic Party at both state and national levels. I urge you to strongly consider which political party and persons running for office are going to support these pro-life family values for you and your family and vote accordingly. As if your (pro) life depended on it.

Are communists pro-life now?
That’s a throwaway line to call Democrats communists. It doesn’t bare scrutiny. There are many issues that deserve the label of Pro-Life.
This is a straw man argument. You can argue for all those other policies, but you don’t have to support them to believe that a fetus is a human life that should not be ended for the convenience of the mother or father. If Republicans don’t start supporting free healthcare and free housing and free anything you want for parents of toddlers, will you argue next that the parents should be able to kill the toddler? I hope not – but human life is continuous from embryo to the end of a (hopefully long) life. A healthy embryo grows to become a human infant unless the mother intervenes to stop that, so there is no point at which we can say it’s not a human that deserves to live.
The other way it’s a straw man is that plenty of nonprofit pregnancy centers support the mother in a multitude of ways, but blue states have been working to make them illegal because they commit the unpardonable sin of showing a pregnant woman an ultrasound of her (obviously human) baby.

I don’t know where to start- you don’t know what real educators do in regular classrooms. They’re not there to groom children. As for Adoption, I seriously doubt that Adoption is the “be all,end all” to the unwanted pregnancies that women will face with a 6week ban in place. Most women don’t know they’re pregnant til 8-10 weeks! Being an adopted child brings with it many issues/liabilities. It’s any easy answer to a very difficult issue. Don’t romanticize it.

Thousands of Americans lost their lives during Covid- in part- due to the callous disregard by our government to protect people with policies. it was unbearable the losses for families. How does that reflect on Democratic policies? Your argument for Life is confusing to me.

During covid peak, in a nearby county everyone was so sad that a middle age man died from covid. He was not fat, he was in excellent shape, as he could do something few Americans could do, pass a firefighter’s physical test because he was a fireman.
Then the article mentioned he was not vaccinated. He probably got medical advice from Dr. Trump, and figured he could cure covid by injecting Clorox, or drinking horse wormer.
He deliberately chose to not get vaccinated. I think his death should be ruled a suicide, and his wife and kids should not get any government benefits. Why should Democrats pay benefits to a Trumpkin who committed suicide?
What covid policies that are government disregarded would you have liked to have seen implemented?

According to the doctors and hospitals who recorded their deaths – and there were many thousands of the former and probably a thousand of the latter – they would not have died if they had not had Covid. Yes, many types of disease cause failures of specific body systems, but we’d be fools to record them as being primarily caused by that failure.

Inflation is under 3% after blowing up from the pandemic, and the US is at the top for growth, with the market regularly setting records, and the consensus among economists that a recession or depression would follow the pandemic now happily abandoned.

Maybe you were on the moon then, but people mostly isolated on their own because they didn’t want to get sick and maybe die, not because they were mandated to stay home. As an NPA, I appreciate the effort to connect the dots between parties. Unfortunately, it missed the mark. The Democratic Party is the topic of this piece, so that’s where I’ll keep my focus. The leadership of the party has, for years, neglected to address issues in poor and disenfranchised communities.
The leadership claims to want clean air and water while they max out municipal budgets (like Gainesville) and fail to address the very issues in communities similar to East Gainesville.
The leadership claims to want safe communities but fails to do the tough work required to address root causes and reduce violent crime.
The leadership claims to want healthcare for all but continues to drive up the cost of BASIC living with policies that contradict established economic principles.
In many cases, like pro-choice versus pro-life, it’s not about what you do but how you do it. Democrats desire all of the above, but the leadership of the party isn’t doing things right.

As noted by the writer, there are actions we can take that would help support children in poorer situations – they are after all “a life” and being born is not the hardest part. The 2 major parties are clear on their support for those “lives”, as the GOP just recently – again – voted against the Child Tax credit extension and 15 GOP governors – including our jerk – turned down a summer program to help families get food between school (when lunches are provided). They still are trying to shut down Obama care and offer no optional plan to help Americans and their families who struggle to have health insurance, and DeSantis and his red buddies refuse to expand Medicaid to cover them, though there is federal money for this purpose. Their tax cuts are aimed at Trump’s buddies.
You don’t need a program to know who works for regular Americans and who caters to the wealthiest.

Some consider pregnancy the highest state of fitness for an adult human female. But for the sake of argument, let’s look at it from the point of view of the “pro-choice” crowd. In their view, if I understand it correctly, an unwanted pregnancy is like a disease and warrants invasive medical intervention. OK, let’s go with that. As a disease it is disfiguring, and moreover bears many symptoms such as morning sickness, back pain, shortness of breath, and so on. And it is undeniably very inconvenient. Thankfully, at least this disease is self-limited. Almost every such afflicted person “gets better”.
But, to the great JOY of the pro-choice crowd, there is a CURE! But the cure involves the sacrifice of at least one human life. Can you think of any other disease for which millions are willing to advocate for human sacrifice as part of the treatment?
