FDOT begins resurfacing project on Williston Road this week
Press release from Florida Department of Transportation
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Preliminary construction activities began this week on a project to resurface approximately 3.3 miles of Williston Road from SR 25 (U.S. 441) to SR 26 (University Avenue). The project includes asphalt resurfacing, traffic and pedestrian signal upgrades, curb and sidewalk repairs, and street lighting enhancements.
Traffic management will adhere to FDOT standards, with lane closures and flagging operations occurring during off-peak hours, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., seven days a week.
FDOT selected V.E. Whitehurst and Sons Inc. to complete this $8 million project by spring 2025, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.
If you’re driving on a well surfaced road, it’s because FDOT spends your state tax dollars on it to make it right. If you’re driving on a pothole mess, it’s because Alachua county commissioners would rather waste your tax dollars on their leftist pet projects than what they should be paying for with your tax dollars.
How about highway 232, NW to NE 53rd avenue,
It runs from Millhopper to Waldo Road. It’s full of potholes and dangerous grooves in the pavement.
I’ve reported it to FDOT many times in the past 10 years. Crickets!

There’s always a one-off, that’s why they call it a one-off.
I sure appreciate the night shift road construction workers who help us all by doing this fairly dangerous work while most of us are sleeping, thereby helping to reduce the traffic impacts for those of us who drive during the daytime. This is true for the NW 39th Ave. and Nw 23rd Ave. projects as well. I hope everyone on our roads at night will slow down and use caution through those construction zones, so those guys (and maybe a few women too) will get home safely to their loved ones after working all night on our roads.
They need to 4 lane Williston Road(121) or at least put passing lanes in.
