Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol is looking for an unidentified semi truck with a trailer that hit an Alachua County school bus today and drove away.
At about 4:45 p.m., a semi traveling southbound on SW 75th Street hit a school bus that was stopped in a southbound turn lane at SW 45th Terrace. The semi brushed against the rear of the passenger side of the bus, then continued southbound and left the scene. The bus had two juvenile passengers, who were not injured.
“The semi brushed against the rear of the passenger side of the bus…”
Is it possible that the bus was partially in the travel lane? Or that the “brush” was so light that the truck driver never felt it? Continuing on after a light contact is not the same as “drove away.” FHP’s report is sadly lacking here.
