FHP seeking dark gray Mustang in fatal hit-and-run

Staff report

Updated at 4:00 p.m.: FHP has located the suspect vehicle and has identified a person of interest.

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol is seeking a 2015-2020 dark gray Ford Mustang in connection with a fatal hit-and-run of a pedestrian this morning on U.S. Hwy 441.

At about 3:35 a.m. on October 1, a pedestrian was hit by a car on southbound U.S. Hwy 441, just south of SW 104th Avenue. The car that hit the pedestrian fled southbound toward Micanopy and Marion County. The pedestrian, a 26-year-old man from Floral City, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

The suspect vehicle has lower right front and undercarriage damage. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Cpl. Phelan at 850-960-9743, FHP Dispatch at 800-387-1290, or CrimeStoppers.

  • I hope the victim was NOT walking on the pavement and/or wearing dark clothing at night. Common sense needs to be taught to our young people, whether or not pertinent here 😥😥😥

  • Were they here wildin’ it up because of the lack of an open container law?

  • Unfortunately, the pedestrian had already wrecked his truck, excited it and walked into the road. He was driving reckless for miles, long before the accident/incident. Condolences to god family regardless. If the person that hit him would’ve just stopped, (considering they weren’t intoxicated) they probably wouldn’t be facing charges
