FHP seeking driver in Waldo Road hit-and-run death of man on a motorized bicycle

A 28-year-old Starke man was killed last night after a truck veered into the bike lane of Waldo Road sometime after midnight. Florida Highway Patrol does not release the name of crash victims, but a reader has asked us to add that the man’s name was Jarrett Taylor (JT) Young.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a truck that may have been a 1998-2004 Ford F250/F350 or a 2000-2004 Ford Excursion SUV was traveling east on SR 24 (Waldo Road) in the right lane, 1.1 miles west of NE 127th Street. A 28-year-old Starke man was riding a motorized Schwinn bicycle eastbound on the paved shoulder. For unknown reasons, the truck traveled partially onto the shoulder and struck the bicycle. The rider was ejected into the eastbound ditch and pronounced deceased at the scene.

The truck fled the scene in an unknown direction but should have significant damage to the passenger side headlight assembly. FHP investigators believe the crash occurred sometime after midnight on Monday, April 25. Anyone who has information regarding the truck or driver involved in the crash should contact FHP at 1-800-387-1290 or https://www.stopcrime.tv/

  • So many unsolved fatal hit and runs, and hit and runs with serious injuries in our area.
It’s sad and frightening to think there are so many people out there who think nothing of leaving someone to die on the side of the road after they hit a human being with their vehicle…

  • Very sad. Transportation in rural areas must be more difficult than ever. Then this happens ;-(

  • The victims name was Jarrett Taylor (JT) Young. He was loved and people need to know his name.
