FHP seeks driver after hit-and-run pedestrian death on I-75 near the Williston Road exit

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol is seeking the driver of a semi that hit a 45-year-old Gainesville man on I-75 near the Williston Road exit this morning and then left the scene.
At about 8:55 a.m. on June 15, the victim was walking southbound in the roadway, north of the entrance to the southbound exit ramp at Williston Road (Exit 382,) when a semi with a black cab and white trailer hit the pedestrian and drove away. The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
If you witnessed this crash or have any information about it, please contact the Florida Highway Patrol or Crime Stoppers.
I suspect there is a LOT of information missing from the story at this time.

Didn’t they pass some ordinance prohibiting panhandling in medians for this very reason ? And, I’m guessing the driver was totally unaware of the incident.

The deceased was walking on I-75?
Isn’t that prohibited by Florida Statute for just such reasons?
Exactly, in the state of FL it’s illegal to walk on the interstate. He wasn’t even walking on the shoulder. However, the fact that the semi driver didn’t stop after knowingly hitting a human being is the concerning part!
Maybe if you ever drove a big semi truck you would know you don’t know what’s going on 75 feet behind you in a blind spot or not, alot of the times.
Especially when you’re distracted by let’s say fifty gauges on the dash a cell phone etc… The problem is not the trucks.The problem is the panhandlers and the homeless people that the county does absolutely nothing to fix. Enforce the laws every second of the day, problem solved.

Just to clarify, the man was reported to be walking *on the Interstate*, not at the intersection. Possibly somewhere near the rest area?
TV20 has only a little more detail, and apparently the Sun and Agitator couldn’t be bothered to mention it at all, probably because it would interfere with their “No Kings” campaign.
I have almost first hand information about it, and it was a panhandler homeless person living in the woods area, without a doubt. For people that don’t know that area at the interstate is a huge homeless population.There’s a Camp behind the marathon and a big one behind the Publix. There’s nobody else that would be walking around that area. But you’re entirely right about the alligator and the Sun.They are complete liberal worthless rags…
The Sun doesn’t really exist any more, so you’re beating a dead horse. The Alligator is an excellent paper which has broken several of the big stories coming out of UF and it’s shenanigans with Ladapo, Sasse, the UF Trustees, and the Draconian punishments for a peaceful anti-Israel demonstration by the new Dean from nowhere (3 degrees from unheard of religious schools in Texas) who overruled the appropriate disciplinary faculty committee . The Sun was an excellent local newspaper until about 5 years ago when they had to close office and become USA Today with 1-2 local sources. It went down like most local newspapers in America, not because they failed their original purpose, but because 1st Craiglist and others killed classified ads and then the internet started serving news, for free and instantly. – much of it fake and aimed at the know-nothings who became MAGA.
I always thought it was highly symbolic that their newsroom had no windows to the outside world.

You don’t have the first hand information. My brother was not a panhandler nor stays in the woods. He had his own apartment but suffered from ptsd, left his apartment walking and was off his meds😡 So please get your facts right before commenting. RIP little brother 🙏🏽
