Fire crews respond to cabinet shop fire in Hawthorne

HAWTHORNE, Fla. – At about 2:20 p.m. this afternoon, units from Alachua County Fire Rescue, Windsor Fire Rescue, and Melrose Fire Rescue were dispatched to a report of a commercial building fire located in the city of Hawthorne, off SE 200th Way.

Units received a report of a fire that started in a cabinet shop, with active flames and dark/black smoke showing/confirmed. On arrival, units found heavy fire involvement in the cabinet shop, along with fire extending into an adjacent building.

Crews were able to rapidly deploy hoselines, establish a water supply off a nearby hydrant, and extinguish a fire with heavy fire load to prevent further damage. Units were able to keep the majority of fire and damage to the building of origin.

No one was hurt at the incident, and all employees were accounted for by the business owners. The fire is currently being investigated by the State Fire Marshal office.
