Firefighters battle fast-moving grass fire in High Springs, save a house within a few feet of the fire
Press release from High Springs Fire Department
HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. – Just after 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, High Springs, Alachua County, and Lacrosse firefighters responded to a reported brush fire at 28206 N CR 1491 in unincorporated Alachua County.
Once on scene, firefighters reported a three-acre, fast-moving grass fire. Crews quickly attacked the blaze, saving a home just ten feet from the fire and a boat mere inches from its trailer. Pushed by strong winds, the fire quickly grew to five or more acres. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and livestock were moved to safety.
The cause of the fire was an escaped pile burn, and the Florida Forest Service is fully investigating.
Your High Springs Fire Department reminds you to always follow burn regulations and never burn on a windy day.
we would do that to our yard intentionally every few years, garden hose could have saved that house
If the house was in CA, probably would have burned down due to a lack of stored water.
Again, Firefighters to the rescue, these guys are just the best. I’m glad the owner’s house and boat were saved by these brave and selfless heroes.
