Firefighters extinguish kitchen fire, save cat

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – At 12:01 a.m. on May 9, Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to a multi-residential structure fire at Summit House Apartments (1700 SW 16th Ct). Crews arrived to find a working fire in a second-floor kitchen. Firefighters quickly contained and extinguished the blaze, preventing further extension.

All occupants were safely evacuated, and a cat was successfully rescued from the building. No injuries have been reported. The fire is currently under investigation.
