Firefighters keep kitchen fire from spreading in Hawthorne home

HAWTHORNE, Fla. – Firefighters responded to a kitchen fire in Hawthorne this afternoon and kept it from spreading further into the home; one person was treated for minor injuries.

At about 4:21 p.m., crews from Alachua County Fire Rescue, Melrose Fire Department, and Windsor Fire Department responded to a residential fire just east of Hawthorne in the 23100 block of SE Hawthorne Road. Crews found smoke coming from the home and found the fire in the kitchen.

Although the fire had begun spreading to other areas of the house, crews quickly extinguished the fire and stopped it from spreading further.

One person was treated for minor injuries. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.
