Staff report
WALDO, Fla. – At about 7:35 p.m. this evening, crews from Alachua County Fire Rescue and Melrose Fire Department were dispatched to a residential structure fire in Waldo.
Upon arrival, crews found a single-family home with 40% fire involvement. Crews made an aggressive attack, got the fire under control within four minutes, and then quickly extinguished the fire.

The crews rescued two kittens and a guinea pig from the structure. There were no reported injuries to the residents or firefighters; unfortunately, three birds perished in the fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Thank you ACFR and Melrose department for all of your hard work!
Thank you to the firemen who so bravely put the fire out and saved my best friends animals. We thought for sure they had all perished.
