Staff report

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Crews responded yesterday to a residential fire and contained it to the attic.

At about 4:58 p.m. on March 13, crews from Alachua County Fire Rescue and the High Springs Fire Department were dispatched to a residential building fire. Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from the roof and eaves, with fire showing through the roof near the garage.

Crews made a coordinated and aggressive interior attack that quickly contained and then extinguished the fire. Extensive work was performed to ensure no further “hot spots” were present in the attic area. The fire was contained to the attic, and there were no injuries. The Red Cross was called to assist the family, and the incident is currently under investigation.

  • Educated guess:
Dirty vertical dryer exhaust vent thru the roof. Dryer vents should run horizontal and exhaust thru a wall. Homeowners should also blow out their dryer vent occasionally. They’re a ticking time bomb in some homes.
