Staff report from Gainesville Fire Rescue post
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Firefighters saved six guinea pigs in an apartment fire last night while preventing the spread of the fire to other apartments.
At about 8:11 p.m., Gainesville Fire Rescue crews responded to a fire at Towne Parc Apartments (2930 SW 23rd Terrace). The first arriving crew quickly put out the fire, preventing the spread to other apartments.
Crews saved the tenant’s six guinea pigs.

Good news all around. Just FYI, “Guinea pigs” aren’t from Guinea, nor are they closely related to pigs. Apparently they are a domesticated form of Cavies, which are rodents found in the Andean parts of South America.
So glad the pets were saved. Awesome firefighters.
Any word on if they fixed some potholes after saving the pets?
Firefighters our “everyday” heroes. Bless each and every one of you.
