Flags at half-staff in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day

Press release from the Office of Governor Ron DeSantis

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued the following memorandum:

Peace Officers Memorial Day honors the lives of local, state, and federal officers who have died or become disabled in the line of duty. On May 15, we pay tribute to those officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the safety and freedoms of Floridians. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week. We will never forget the enduring legacy of law enforcement heroes.

To honor and show gratitude for their service and sacrifice, I hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout the State of Florida from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.

  • Thank you to all military personnel, past, present, and future… those who will or whom have signed up to serve🇺🇸 Those willing to pay the ULTIMATE SACRIFICE in 🇺🇸uniform!
Thank you all for your selflessness, your willingness to give your life so that someone undeserving can enjoy freedom in the greatest nation there has ever been! Thank you!

    • You’re a few weeks early, FD. May 15th is for fallen Law Enforcement. Memorial Day is for military.

  • Ah, for the good old days when police were “peace officers”. Doesn’t that have a friendlier psychological connotation than “law enforcement officers”?
